Agnes Follinglo

Official Obituary of

28/12/1913 - to - 8/9/2010

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of a wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother following a hip fracture and ensuing complications.

Agnes Borghild Follinglo, beloved wife of Torbjorn (Tony), passed away peacefully surrounded by her adoring family on Wednesday, September 8, 2010 at the age of 96 years.

Agnes was born to Nils and Christine Odegard in Macrorie, Saskatchewan, on December 28, 1913. There she met Tony whom she married on December 15, 1937. Shortly after, they moved to the Foremost area where, in 1948, they bought a farm north of town and raised their 4 children. Agnes loved farm life and was a true farmer's wife working hard tending large gardens and livestock. She loved animals and, particularly, the peacefulness of milking cows who, ""never talked back"".

In 1967, Agnes and Tony moved to Lethbridge where they lived in the same home until the day of her recent hospitalization. A visit to Agnes' home always meant receiving tremendous hospitality- even in her 96th year. The coffee pot was always on and a meal or home baking quickly appeared. While in Lethbridge, Agnes was a member of her second ""family"", the Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd. Agnes was a woman of great faith whose warm presence and beautiful smile will be remembered by all who knew her.

Agnes was also extremely proud of her Norwegian heritage. She was a member of the Lethbridge Sons of Norway and her lefse, flatbread and Norwegian baking delighted family and friends.

Married to Tony for 72 years, Agnes was his partner in life. They were blessed to be in their own home, together, for so many years where they helped each other in everything.

Of all the contributions Agnes made throughout her life, she would likely say that being a mother was the most important. And she will be lovingly remembered as the best example of a mother by her children, Anna (Ted) Elford of Edmonton; Carolyn Coverdale of Lethbridge; Arnold (Dorothy) Follinglo of Edmonton; and Karen (Blake) Marshall of Calgary; and of a grandmother by her grandchildren, Steven, Kathryn (Huy) and Janet (Chris); Dana (Lori), Todd (Karen) and Kirsten (Lorne); Kari and Amy and great-grandchildren, Allison; Emma and Eric; Matthew and Megan; Faith and Elyse; and Marshall.

Agnes was predeceased by her parents Nils and Christine, sister Inga, brother Hjalmer, infant son Norman and great-grandaughter Alana.

Family and Friends are invited to pay their respects between 7:00PM and 9:00PM, on Sunday, September 12, 2010, at the MARTIN BROS. RIVERVIEW CHAPEL, 610 - 4 Street South, Lethbridge, Alberta.

A Memorial Service will be held at 1:00PM, on Monday, September 13, 2010, at the LUTHERAN CHURCH OF THE GOOD SHEPHERD, 2406 - 11 Avenue South, Lethbridge, Alberta, with Pastor Kevin Powell officiating. A Private Family Graveside Service will be held prior to the Memorial Service.

For those who wish, Memorial Donations may be made to the Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd, 2406 - 11 Avenue South, Lethbridge, Alberta, T1K 0K8, or Canadian Lutheran Bible Institute, 4837 - 52A Street, Camrose, Alberta, T4V 1W5.
