Dorothy Filmer

Official Obituary of

26/12/1917 - to - 16/2/2007

John 3:16 ""For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten son,
that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.""

MRS. DOROTHY FILMER of Lethbridge, beloved wife of the late Mr. George Filmer, passed away with grace and dignity on Friday, February 16, 2007 surrounded by her family at the age of 89 years.

Mom was born in Commerce, Alberta on December 26, 1917 to Fred and Hesperia Johnston. Growing up on the prairies in the little coal mining town of Diamond City, her life was filled with the simplicity of country life, the many adventures of a young girl enjoying the closeness of her many cousins and the love of the prairies.

She met our Dad at the Trianon Dance Hall where they shared their love of ballroom dancing. As children, we loved to watch our Dad twirl our Mom around the dance floor at weddings and celebrations. Their grandchildren always enjoyed being held by one of them as they waltzed around the kitchen.

Mom married Dad on November 20, 1950. They raised their three daughters and enjoyed two precious grandgirls in their later years.

Dorothy is survived by her three daughters Patricia (Garry) Young, Judi Whitcher (Harry Denenny), and Sharon (Jim) Appelt and her two granddaughters Tonia and Jennifer Appelt. Mom is also survived by her brother Gordon Johnston. Mom felt the love of two lovely little babies Ashlyn and Elyse and all the special caregivers that cared for her with the dignity and respect so deserving of her in her last days.

For the last six years, her home at St. Michaels Health Centre was filled with joy and laughter as her care givers always felt welcome. We love you Mom.

A Funeral Service will be held at 1:00PM on Tuesday, February 20, 2007 at MARTIN BROS RIVERVIEW CHAPEL, 610 - 4 St. South, Lethbridge, AB, with Pastor Richard Brown officiating.

In memory of Dorothy, donations may be made to the Lethbridge Handi-Bus Association, 416 - 10 Street North, Lethbridge, AB T1H 2C7 or to the Lethbridge Seniors Citizen's Organization, 500-11 Street South, Lethbridge, AB T1J 4G7.
