With great sadness, the family of ETHEL EICHHORN announces her death on January 23, 2010 at the Chinook Regional Hospital after a short illness.
Ethel was born in Taber on January 15, 1919 to Arthur and Ida Conrad. She attended Normal School in Calgary and in 1973 completed her Bachelor of Education at the University of Lethbridge.
Ethel taught school at Rosemary, Grimshaw, Fettig School at Grassy Lake, Badger Lake School near Lomond, Kinniburgh School, and Chamberlain School at Grassy Lake. After moving to Lethbridge in the late seventies, Ethel taught for ten years at the Henderson School of Business. Her students enjoyed the colourful stories she told them about her life. She remembered each of her students and loved them all. Her teaching career spanned the era of one-room school houses to teaching computer technology.
Ethel married Otto Eichhorn in 1944 and lived on a farm south of Grassy Lake where they raised their family. They loved their life in Grassy Lake and cherished the life-long friendships made with the people there.
Ethel enjoyed reading, fishing, camping, oil painting, winning at cards, and was a world traveler.
Ethel is survived by her sister Elaine Johnson (Elmer, deceased) of Blackfalds; her son Gerry Eichhorn (Sherrill) of Calgary; and daughters Roz Eichhorn (Joe Lahey) and Patricia Gravelle (Jerry) of Lethbridge. She is also survived by her grandchildren; Vernon Eichhorn (Tekla and their children Rhiannon, Siobhan, Maeve) of Edmonton; Jessica Cobb (Sean and her son Chance) of Vancouver; James Lahey (and his son Devon) of Fort McMurray; Kurt Gravelle of Fort McMurray; and Clark Gravelle of Fort McMurray. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews across Canada, the US, and Germany, all of whom she loved very much.
