HELEN DUECK of Coaldale, passed away at the Coaldale Health Care Centre on Thursday, July 16, 2009, at the age of 84 years.

On January 6, 1925, Helen Dueck was born to Jacob and Katherina Dueck in Orenburg, Russia. The family came to Canada in 1926 and settled on a farm in Coaldale, Alberta where Helen grew up and obtained her education. She graduated from Bible School, High School, from Mennonite Brethren Bible College in Winnipeg and then as an RN. Later she obtained her degree in Nursing Administration.

She was a follower of Christ and used her education to serve God in underdeveloped areas, first for 11 years in India, then 3 years in Zambia. Back in Canada she was nursing administrator in Camrose, and then for the Barons/Eureka/Warner Health Unit in Coaldale.

After her retirement she still used her nursing skills in working with Medical Missions International for 48 two-week projects in numerous Third World Countries.

After a courageous battle with cancer, she went to be with her Lord on July 16, 2009.

She was predeceased by 3 siblings and their spouses Susie and Bernard Epp, Tina and Jake Janz, and Peter and Sara Dueck. Surviving family members include 2 brothers, Jake (Martha) and John (Elvira) Dueck, and 2 sisters, Mary (Paul) Poetker and Lydia (John) Voth; also 48 nieces and nephews with their families.

Family and friends are invited to pay their respects between 7:00pm and 9:00pm, on Monday, July 20, 2009, at the MARTIN BROS. RIVERVIEW CHAPEL, 610 - 4 St., S., Lethbridge, Alberta.

A private family interment will take place prior to the Memorial Service at the Coaldale Cemetery.

A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00am, on Tuesday, July 21, 2009, at the COALDALE MENNONITE BRETHREN CHURCH, 2114 - 18 St., Coaldale, AB, with Pastor Randy Dueck, officiating.
