Anna was born on Dec 22, 1926, in Lysiatychi, Ukraine. She came to Canada in 1948 with her sister Mary and parents Motria and Trochym Hawa.
Prior to coming to Canada, her family had been traveling and working, escaping and surviving through war and famine. Living 2 years in a refugee camp in Northern Germany. Traveling finally by boat from Hamburg to Halifax, arriving at Lethbridge AB by train. Working with her family on a sugar beet farm. Marrying in 1949 and living on their family farm near Kipp. Caring for a variety of farm animals and her large bountiful garden. She had a very proud Ukrainian heritage. Always cooking and sharing love through food. From perogies to cabbage rolls, sauerkraut, and baking was always available for sampling.
She resided at St. Therese Villa, where she was very well liked, known as “Baba” to all.
She showed tremendous strength and compassion throughout her life. A strong work ethic, a skilled seamstress, an astute gardener, an amazing cook that always made sure her guests had something to eat. Even in her retirement she worked hard. Exercising, gardening, creating cross stitch and crocheting works of art for her family. She will always be remembered for her caring nature, love for her family and her dedication in her many pursuits in life.
We would like to thank the staff at St. Therese for their exceptional treatment and care and walk of honor for Baba!
