Helen Doenz

Official Obituary of

8/12/1918 - to - 13/7/2011

HELEN ALBERTA (TIFFIN) DOENZ passed away peacefully at the St. Therese Villa on Wednesday, July 13th to be reunited with her husband Leo, son Christian; daughter Beverly; sister Beryl Tiffin, and two brothers Ronald and Stan Tiffin.

Helen Tiffin was born on December 8th, 1918 at the Galt Hospital in Lethbridge, Alberta to the proud parents of Joseph John 'Jack' and Alberta Mary (Wight) Tiffin. At the age of fifteen, Helen learned quickly how fragile life could be with the sudden passing of her mother, but at the same time developed a strong sense of independence and family. She loved sports and was proud to say that she was a ""tomboy"". She loved being outside and helping her father, who operated a large dairy farm just south of Lethbridge. Upon completing her high school education, Helen attended Normal School in Calgary, Alberta to become a teacher. Her heart never left the farm and was adamant that she someday would marry a rancher or farmer to ensure that she never had to live in the city again. Sure enough she met up with a young mechanic and future ranching prospect while working with her brother (Ronald) on a small farm east of Masinasin.

On October 31st, 1942, Helen married Leo Roy Doenz and started to build a life together on the family homestead in Warner, Alberta. ""Behind every great man there is a great woman"" definitely applies in this case. Once again life provided its challenges with the passing of their young son, Christian, followed by three miscarriages and one stillbirth. Family was important and with the arrival of Beverly Rose, Nelson Albert and Holly Marie the family was complete. They worked as partners; Leo the cattle and the land; Helen, the family and any other business that fell her way. She was not shy of work, she taught Sunday School, was actively involved in the Warner Community, an active member of the Alberta Hereford Belles, 4-H and the list goes on. LCI Herefords grew through a family effort of love and passion - she always let Leo think that he was the boss. She loved the farm and all that it represented.

Helen's life will always be fondly remembered by her children - Nelson (Paula) Doenz of Warner; Holly (David) Godson of Taber; her son-in-law Lorne (Cathy) Jessop; her grandchildren Jennifer (Caleb) Arms of Lethbridge; Shaun (Erin Shrimpton) Jessop of Surrey, BC; Kristy (Ken) Robinson of Warner, and Brad (Veronica) Doenz of Warner; Stephanie (Jason) Wilson of Fort McMurray, AB and Clarke (Starr Reeder) Godson of Lethbridge; her four great grandchildren: Jade, Ava and Tate Wilson and Autumn Godson; her sister-in-law Anna Hughson of Lethbridge; her close friends Hap and Edie Hinch of Lethbridge; and, the many nephews, nieces, extended family and friends.

A Funeral Service will take place at 2:00PM on Monday, July 18, 2011 at MARTIN BROTHERS RIVERVIEW CHAPEL, 610-4th Street South Lethbridge, with Pastor Brian Magee officiating.

Interment to follow at Mountain View Cemetery.
