Marlene Dash

Official Obituary of

30/9/1937 - to - 18/3/2024

Until we meet again…the family of Marlene Dash invite you to share stories of love, life and adventure as we mourn her passing. Born on September 30, 1937 in the small rural community of Hubalta, Alberta, she lived a simple life, hardworking, honest and caring. Her passing on March 18, 2024 will leave a hole in many hearts.

Daughter of Emil and Carolina Miller, sister to Lillian (Devolin), Raymond (Miller) and Leonard (Miller), Marlene was the youngest in the family. Marlene was predeceased by her brother Leonard but continued a wonderful connection and love for her brother Raymond and sister Lillian right to the end. They talked on the phone often and visited in person when possible.

Marlene completed High School in 1955 in the town of Didsbury, Alberta, and set off to the metropolis of Calgary to start her life adventures meeting many new friends, finding a career and love. In 1963, Marlene married Stanley Dash (deceased) and began a family soon thereafter. Two children joined the Dash family, a son Kelly and a daughter Cheryl.

One of the things that everyone remembers about Marlene is her infectious laugh, love of family and friends, zest for life and travel. In her early twenties, Marlene and a friend set off on cruise to Hawaii…never heard of in those days, a couple of single young ladies travelling on their own. So many stories shared about the crew, excursions and people they met. Travelling continued as a passion throughout her life finding new adventures across North America, Russia, Europe and the Caribbean.

Marlene kept busy with many work and volunteer pursuits. Starting with AGT right out of high school in 1955, then Woolco, Mental Health and Community Health in Lethbridge, Red Deer and Calgary, finally retiring at 71. In the community, Marlene volunteered working BINGOS, spent hours hiding for search dogs in training and answered the call to help when needed. Truly a heart of gold.

In 2012, Marlene became a gramma, otherwise known as GaGa and Gma to Edela and many of Edela's friends. She was in awe of Edela’s energy and strived to keep up with her antics and many, many of her school and sporting events. Marlene was able to watch Edela play volleyball at a local tournament just two days before her passing. She was one proud gramma.

Always on my mind, forever in my heart.

In lieu of flowers, please feel free to donate to a local charity of your choosing in Marlene’s name. Marlene chose a couple different charities every year to donate to including: The Lethbridge Food Bank, Red Cross, Heart and Stroke Foundation, Cancer Society, STARS Air Ambulance, Lethbridge and District Humane Society, Canadian Parks and Wilderness Foundation, and AARCS.
