Official Obituary of
23/2/1932 - to - 23/7/2010
The Lord is my Shepherd; I shall not want . . .
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our Mom, Grandma, Sister and Friend, LILLIAN MAY CROTTY, on July 23, 2010.
Lillian was born February 23, 1932, to Percy and Mabel Sherrington of Coalhurst. She was raised in the Coalhurst area, quitting school in Grade 8 to make money to buy her dentures, a story she loved to tell. On April 15, 1948, she began her life with her lifelong partner, Bill. In support of Bill's work, they relocated frequently throughout their life until Bill retired in 1974, when they moved to Picture Butte.
In her mid 40's, Lillian registered in the Rehabilitation Services program at Lethbridge Community College, successfully gaining her diploma. They relocated to Lethbridge and she went on to work several years with mentally and physically challenged adults, a career she absolutely loved. Shortly after Bill's passing in 1993, Lillian moved in with her daughter Mary Ann (Allen) Sorge, where she resided until her passing.
Lillian was predeceased by her husband, Bill, her parents, Percy Sherrington and Mabel Watmough; and her brother, Jim.
Lillian will be deeply missed by her four children, Stanley (Deb) Crotty of Calgary; Cyndy (Boyd) Folden and Mary Ann (Allen) Sorge of Lethbridge; and Betty Crotty of Saskatoon; as well as her beloved grandchildren, Jamie (Sara) Folden and Kim Folden of Coaldale; her sister, Floris White of Grande Prairie; and her brother, Alvin Sherrington, of Sacramento, California . Her deepest joy came from spending time with family, and she especially relished time with her great-grandchildren, Tanner, Alexia and Kylie Folden, and was eagerly awaiting the arrival of a new grandson in August. She will also be deeply missed by step-grandson, Kevin Sorge, whom she thought of as one of her own, and several other step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren.
Lillian loved life and had an amazing sense of humour. She loved to share stories about her childhood and adventures throughout her life. One of her most memorable qualities was her ability to remember dates of all her relatives' birthdays, anniversaries and deaths, and any storm of significance in the past 60 years! She especially loved family get-togethers, which were always filled with great food and much laughter.
In recent years, Lillian became an active member of the Salvation Army Ladies League, an avenue to share her love for her Lord and Saviour. She treasured the good friends and companionship she enjoyed while helping to make the world a better place for others.
A Private Family service will be held at a later date, with interment to take place at Mountain View Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Salvation Army Ladies League, 1302 - 4 Avenue South, Lethbridge AB T1J 0R4.
