Official Obituary of

4/12/1927 - to - 14/8/2014

HARRY COX 1927 ~ 2014 Harry William Cox, beloved husband of Mildred Cox, passed away on Thursday, August 14th, 2014 at the age of 86 surrounded by his loving family. Harry was born on December 4th, 1927 in Plunkett Saskatchewan where he completed his schooling. Harry began his working life with Swift's in Saskatoon; from there he was transferred to The Pas Manitoba where at a dance, he met the love of his life Mildred Madsen. This past August 9th marked their 62nd wedding anniversary. In 1952 Harry and Mildred moved to Lethbridge Alberta where Harry worked for Swift's for four more years while Mildred taught at Allan Watson School. In 1956 Harry began working with London Life Insurance, a remarkable career that lasted more than 37 years. Today his sons Brad and Geoff and grandson Jared continue on his legacy with Cox Financial Group. Harry was a tremendous sports enthusiast. Hockey and golf were his favourite sports, Harry played hockey as a youth in Plunkett and if what he said was true, he was an ""AMAZING"" hockey player. Harry passed on his love of sports to his entire family. Harry was known well for his extreme competitiveness and quick wit, personality traits that followed him throughout his entire life. He passed on these particular traits to every one of his children and grandchildren. He was particularly known for his involvement with the Lethbridge Y's Mens Club where Harry and Mildred met many of their lifelong friends. Harry was also very proud of his community involvement with the United way, Lethbridge Community Foundation, University of Lethbridge - Board of Governors, and Harry was a founding member of the University of Lethbridge Pronghorns men's hockey team. He is survived by his wife Mildred (Millie); his sons Brad (Claire) and their children Kailey (Brance) and Connor, Geoff (Andrea) and their children Jared (Jaime), Kennedy (Dallin), and Courtney, and daughter Karen (Todd) and their children Matthew and Megan. He is also survived by his sister Kathy Ballentine (Jim, deceased) and their children Scott (Joanne), Kim (Joe) and his sister Joan's children Todd (Carolyn) and Brent (Raelene); as well as all of the Madsen family. Harry was predeceased by his parents Charles and Elizabeth and sister Joan (1999). A Visitation will take place between 7:00pm - 8:00pm on Monday, August 18th, 2014, at MARTIN BROTHERS FUNERAL CHAPEL, 610 4th St S, Lethbridge Alberta. A Celebration of Life will be held at 1:00pm on Tuesday, August 19th, 2014, at MARTIN BROTHERS FUNERAL CHAPEL. Those who wish, may make memorial donations in memory of Harry to the U of L Pronghorns Men's Hockey Program or to Parkinson's Research at the University of Lethbridge.
