HELEN CHUEN of Medicine Hat, passed away peacefully in St. Michael's Health Centre on Friday, December 12, 2008 in Lethbridge, Alberta. Helen is survived by her brother Norman Chuen and sisters Mary Chuen, Hazel Fong and her children; Linda Fong (Binx) Selby and daughter, James (Linda) Fong and family, David (Anwen) Fong and children, Shari (Dennis) Boisvert and children, Chris (Janelle) Fong and children; Violet Fong and her children Larry (Angela) Fong and children, Gary (Denise) Fong and children, Donald (Deb) Fong and children, Randy Fong and children, Daryl Fong, Rodney Fong, and Valerie Fong.
Helen was predeceased by her parents Sun and Bow-Sim Chuen, sister Irene, brothers; Harry and George, and brothers-in-law John Fong and Lorne Fong.
Helen was born and raised in Bow Island, AB where she lived for the majority of her life before moving to Medicine Hat and most recently Lethbridge. Helen worked in the family store in Bow Island, and also worked in her young adult years in Vancouver and Calgary. Throughout her life, Helen had a passion for music. She always had a radio close by, and enjoyed a variety of classical and country music. Helen was well-versed in the titles of the current hits as well as the various radio personalities. Helen also enjoyed crafts, and particularly loved knitting 'diamond' socks for her nephews. Another passion of Helen's was her love to travel, seeing new sights, and exploring her adventurous side. Helen travelled with her parents and brother to many cities across Canada and the USA. Always open for a conversation, her friendly spirit warmed many hearts of both her close friends and family in addition to strangers newly met. She was very sociable, and always had a smile on her face, a characteristic that can be attested to by anyone she met.
A Funeral Service will be held at 11:00am, on Saturday, December 20, 2008, at the SOUTHMINSTER UNITED CHURCH, 1011 - 4th Ave., S., Lethbridge, AB, with Reverend Lois Punton officiating. Interment to follow in the Mountain View Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be directed to the Alzheimer Society of Canada, #402, 740 - 4th Ave., S., Lethbridge, AB, T1J 0N9, or the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada, 207, 542 - 7th St., S., Lethbridge, AB, T1J 2H1, or to a charity of your choice.
