Mrs. Gladys Velásquez de Castillo was born on December 24, 1947, in Nueva Esparta, El Salvador. She was the daughter of Mrs. Victoria Velásquez and Mr. Concepción Lazo, both lovingly remembered.

She completed her primary and secondary education in her hometown. Later, she moved to San Miguel to study nursing. After finishing her studies, she completed her social service year at the Psychiatric Hospital and then worked for several years at the Benjamin Bloom Children’s Hospital. She later continued working at the Social Security Hospital and eventually in Public Health.

In 1989, she emigrated to this country, where she began working in Home Care thanks to her experience. She later worked for many years at Extendicare, where she formed friendships that she kept throughout her life. Finally, she worked at Saint Michael’s Health Center until retiring at the age of 65.

Throughout her life, Gladys had a beautiful way of staying close to the people she loved. She was always calling or talking with family and friends, checking in on them to make sure they were doing well. She truly enjoyed spending time with others and was always ready to listen, to share a conversation, or simply to be there when someone needed her. She especially cherished time with her grandchildren and her nephews and nieces. From camping trips to Christmas parties and family gatherings, she loved every moment of being together. Those moments filled her heart with joy. She also loved traveling, especially to El Salvador, where she could reunite with relatives and spend time with family she missed dearly. Being surrounded by the people she loved, no matter where they were, was one of the greatest joys of her life.

Unfortunately, three years ago she was diagnosed with cancer in one lung. She underwent surgery and the specialists said she was cancer-free. However, last year the diagnosis returned, which was a great shock for the whole family. Even so, she faced the illness with great faith, strength, and patience, teaching all of us through her example.

She kept her faith strong until the very end, always trusting in God. On Thursday, March 5, 2026, at 11:00 p.m., she passed away while the rosary was being prayed, led by her niece Ruth. We are certain that she now rests in the presence of God and the Virgin Mary.

We would like to thank all the people who were present in her life through prayers, visits, and phone calls. We thank Santa Marta Church for their spiritual support, the two women who brought her communion every fifteen days, the medical and nursing staff who cared for her, and her sister and nieces who came from the United States to help during these difficult moments.

Although she is no longer with us physically, her love, her kindness, and the lessons she gave us will continue living in each of us, in every memory we carry, and in the love that will always unite our family.

La Señora Gladys Velásquez de Castillo nació el 24 de diciembre de 1947 en Nueva Esparta, El Salvador. Fue hija de la Señora Victoria Velásquez y del Señor Concepción Lazo, ambos recordados con mucho amor.

Realizó sus estudios de primaria y secundaria en su pueblo natal. Más adelante se trasladó a San Miguel para estudiar enfermería. Al terminar sus estudios, realizó su año social en el Hospital Psiquiátrico y posteriormente trabajó varios años en el Hospital de Niños Benjamín Bloom. Después continuó trabajando en el Hospital del Seguro Social y más tarde en Salud Pública.

En 1989 emigró a este país, donde comenzó a trabajar en Home Care gracias a su experiencia en el área de la salud. Más adelante trabajó durante muchos años en Extendicare, donde formó amistades que conservó a lo largo de su vida. Finalmente trabajó en Saint Michael’s Health Center hasta jubilarse a la edad de 65 años.

A lo largo de su vida, Gladys tuvo una manera muy especial de mantenerse cerca de las personas que amaba. Siempre estaba pendiente de su familia y de sus amigos, llamando para saber cómo estaban y asegurarse de que todo estuviera bien. Disfrutaba mucho compartir tiempo con los demás y siempre estaba dispuesta a escuchar, conversar o simplemente acompañar a quien lo necesitara. Sentía un cariño muy especial por sus nietos, sobrinos y sobrinas. Desde los viajes de camping hasta las fiestas de Navidad y reuniones familiares, ella disfrutaba profundamente cada momento juntos. También le encantaba viajar, especialmente a El Salvador, donde podía reencontrarse con sus familiares y pasar tiempo con los seres queridos que tanto extrañaba. Estar rodeada de su familia, sin importar la distancia, era una de las mayores alegrías de su vida.

Lamentablemente, hace tres años fue diagnosticada con cáncer en uno de sus pulmones. Fue operada y los especialistas dijeron que estaba libre de cáncer. Sin embargo, el año pasado la enfermedad regresó, lo cual fue un golpe muy fuerte para toda la familia. Aun así, enfrentó la enfermedad con mucha fe, fortaleza y paciencia, enseñándonos a todos con su ejemplo.

Mantuvo su fe firme hasta el final, siempre confiando en Dios. El jueves 5 de marzo de 2026 a las 11:00 de la noche, partió de este mundo mientras se rezaba el rosario, dirigido por su sobrina Ruth. Estamos seguros de que ahora descansa en la presencia de Dios y de la Virgen María.

Queremos agradecer a todas las personas que estuvieron presentes en su vida con sus oraciones, visitas y llamadas. Agradecemos a la Iglesia Santa Marta por su apoyo espiritual, a las dos señoras que cada quince días le llevaban la comunión, al personal médico y de enfermería que la atendió, y a su hermana y sobrinas que vinieron desde los Estados Unidos para acompañarnos durante estos momentos tan difíciles.

Muchas gracias de todo corazón. Que Dios los bendiga a todos.

Aunque ya no está físicamente con nosotros, su amor, su bondad y las enseñanzas que nos dejó seguirán viviendo en cada uno de nosotros, en cada recuerdo que guardamos en el corazón y en el amor que siempre unirá a nuestra familia.
