Margaret Byrne
Official Obituary of
2/10/1914 - to - 31/10/2010
MRS. MARGARET (PEGGY) BYRNE passed away peacefully at the Chinook Regional Hospital on October 31, 2010 at the age of 96 years.
Peggy was born in Tramore, Ireland, the youngest of three children. She married Aidan Byrne in Ireland in 1934, and spent the next thirty years in Ireland, Malaysia, Tanzania, and Uganda. In 1964, Peggy, Aidan and their children moved to Lethbridge where she lived until her passing.
She was predeceased by her husband Aidan in 1997 and by an infant son Alban in 1949. Peggy is survived by three sons; Paul (Jane) in Calgary, John (Liz) in Lethbridge, and Aidan (Karen) in Victoria. She also had nine grandchildren; Paul (Terri), Patrick (Maggie), Peter, Sarah, Emily, Brendan, Cassie, Glynis, and Liam, and one great-grandson Noah. She was always very happy and excited to see them when they came to visit.
In addition to her friends in Lethbridge, she also kept in touch with her relatives and friends in Ireland, England, and Switzerland, many of whom came out to visit her over the years.
Peggy will always be affectionately remembered for her kindness, enjoyment of life, love for family, and her positive attitude. When asked how things were going, she would always cheerfully say, ""So far, so good."" She also loved to talk and had a wonderful sense of humour, and even though she never kissed the Blarney Stone, she definitely had ""the gift of the gab.""
We would like to acknowledge the nursing staff on ward 4A: you were all fantastic. Thanks also to Dr. Frick and the rest of her medical staff, and to her caregiver Alona Santero. As Peggy would say, ""Thank you all very, very much!""
Vigil Rites (Prayers) will be held at 7:00 pm on Wednesday, November 3, 2010 at ST. PATRICK'S ROMAN CATHOLIC CHURCH, led by Francis and Cybele Noronha.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 am on Thursday, November 4, 2010 at ST. PATRICK'S ROMAN CATHOLIC CHURCH, 318 10th Street South, Lethbridge, with Father Tim Boyle, celebrant.
Donations in Peggy's name may be made to the Chinook Regional Hospital Foundation, 960-19th St. S., Lethbridge, AB, T1J 1W5.
