10/1/1927 - to - 26/9/2009
MRS. OLGA NETTIE BURANT of Lethbridge, beloved wife of the late Mr. Del Burant, passed away peacefully with her daughter by her side, on Saturday September 26, 2009 at the age of 82 years.
Olga was born on January 10, 1927 to Nick and Michalena Dorosh in Ituna, SK. She attended school in the Lunnville school district and completed high school at Sacred Heart Academy in Yorkton, SK. After graduating from the Moose Jaw Normal School, she taught in country schools in the District of Kelliher, Waldron and Willowbrook until ill health forced her to leave teaching for a few months. Upon returning she then joined the Government of Saskatchewan in the Correspondence School Department. She moved to Lethbridge, AB, where she joined the Bank of Montreal and gave them ten years of service in the Yorkton, Regina and Lethbridge branches. She was the first bank teller to work in the north side branch of the Bank of Montreal at what is now Laser Plus on 13th Street North.
She married Delphin (Del) John Burant of Waldron, SK in the Sacred Heart Church in Ituna, SK on October 28, 1951. In 1955 they moved back to Alberta and made Lethbridge their home. In 1963 she decided to return to teaching and joined the staff of St. Paul's School and taught there until 1980 when ill health once again forced her to leave her teaching career onto disability until her retirement in 1992.
Olga and her husband Del travelled to many places during their married years. They cruised the Caribbean and travelled Canada from Montreal to Victoria, and many destinations in the United States, Mexico, England, France, Belgium, Holland and Russia.
Olga is survived by her only child, Delmarie (Terry) Skeith, two grandchildren; grandson Jamie and granddaughter Kayla, both of Lethbridge, AB.
She is also survived by her brother Joe (Irene) Dorosh of Regina, SK, brother Orest (Rosalee) Dorosh of Lethbridge, sister Pat (Nick) Marchuk of Lethbridge, sister Muriel (Hank) Rogan of Sardis, BC and sister Iris (Dan) Karapita of Foam Lake, SK, plus numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her loving husband Del, her parents Nick and Michalena Dorosh, brothers Bob and Russell, and sisters Stella and Natalie.
Olga was diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease in 2003 and in August 2004 she moved to Columbia Assisted Living. She lived there until January 2007 when she was hospitalized for two months and then moved to Extendicare (13th Street North) where she remained until her passing.
Olga was a member of the Catholic Women's League (St. Basil's Church) for many years and attending Mass was always a great comfort to her. Her faith was a very significant part of her life. She firmly believed in the power of prayer and a rosary was almost always seen in her hand when visiting her. She will always be remembered for her kindness, compassion towards others and her unending generosity. Olga was a very devoted grandmother and her grandchildren were the lights of her life. Her daughter Delmarie will forever miss the special bond she shared with her mother. There will never be anything or anyone that will be able to fill that void. She also had a soft spot for animals and always made sure that grand-dog Penny had a plate of her own for turkey dinners and that Penny was never left behind when the rest of the family was invited over. She will be deeply missed and forever loved by her family and friends.
Vigil Rites (Prayers) will be held at 7:00 PM, on Wednesday, September 30, 2009, at MARTIN BROS. RIVERVIEW CHAPELS, 610 - 4 St., S., Lethbridge, AB, led by Keith and Ina Boyden.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 AM, on Thursday, October 1, 2009, at ST. BASIL'S CATHOLIC CHURCH, 604 13 Street North, Lethbridge, AB, with Father Raul Hernandez, celebrant.
In lieu of flowers, those who wish may donate to the Alzheimer Society Lethbridge Chapter, #402, 740-4th Ave. S., Lethbridge, AB T1J 0N9, the Canadian Cancer Society, 317-10th Street South, Lethbridge, AB T1J 9Z9, or to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, Box 2211, Lethbridge, AB T1J 4K7.
