Henry Bennink

1936 ~ 2017

Mr. Henry Bennink, beloved husband of Miny, passed away after a hard-fought battle with cancer, and with family by his side on May 3, 2017 at the age of 80 years.

Henry (Henk) was born August 13, 1936 in Wijhe, Netherlands. In 1958, after finishing his duty in the Air Force, he immigrated to Grand Prairie, Canada. Miny joined Henry in 1960, got married April 1, 1960, then moved to Nobleford. With knowledge and a carpenter trade, he easily fit into the construction job at Nobleford Lumber. In 1965, owner John Kooy left, and Henry bought the company. Many of the homes that Henk built are still seen here in Nobleford and area. After a few years, Henry started making concrete and changed the name to Noble Concrete. In 1987, and two batch plants later (Nobleford/Picture Butte), he sold Noble Concrete. Henry continued to operate in his sand and gravel pit, manufacturing and processing various types of sand as Jobe Sand & Gravel.

Throughout his 50 plus years, Henry has given the community countless volunteer hours of his time, labour, knowledge and equipment needed. Including serving on council for a few terms. Henry was all about hard work, growing his business and helping others. Though work took up much of his time, he did enjoy travelling and vacationing to different parts of the world, socializing and dancing at various events and tinkering around in the shop (his hobby room).

Besides his wife Miny, he leaves behind his daughter Ingrid (Wade) Christianson, granddaughter Amber Christianson (Dennis) and sister Janet Bennink (Jan).

Henry was predeceased by his parents Paulus and Sara (Zwartjes) Bennink; father and mother-in-law Gerrit and Ida (Davina) Joosten; brothers-in-law Frans Biesterbos (Mia) and Tonny Joosten (Leny).

A Celebration of Henry’s life will be held at 11:00am on Friday May 12, 2017 at the ITALIAN CANADIAN CLUB, 1511 St. Edward Blvd N, Lethbridge, AB. Included at the service is an open mic opportunity for guests to share some memories.

Flowers are gratefully declined. For those who wish, donations in Henry’s memory can be made to the Jack Ady Cancer Centre, 960 19 St. South, Lethbridge, AB. T1J 1W5.

“Henry will be sadly and dearly missed, but never forgotten”
