Mrs. Colleen Rose Beck of Coalhurst, beloved wife of Mr. Norman Beck and loving mother to Alexis Rose Beck, passed away suddenly at Chinook Regional Hospital on Wednesday, March 12, 2025 at the age of 45 years.
If you ever met Colleen Beck, chances are you walked away with a new craft project idea, a belly full of homemade baking, or at least a story that made you laugh. She had a knack for finding the joy in every little thing — whether it was digging in her garden, cheering on her favourite curling team, or trying new recipes.
Married for 14 years to her husband Norman, her high school sweetheart turned lifelong partner, they shared 29 wonderful years. Together, they raised their amazing daughter, Alexis, who inherited her mom’s creative spirit and love of life. Colleen grew up in Fort Macleod and graduated from F.P. Walshe High School in 1998. She later pursued her passion for helping others at Lethbridge College, where she completed her diploma in Recreation Therapy. She even earned the Alberta Therapeutic Recreation Association's Student of the Year award in 2008. She poured that love into her work at places like Medichair, Extendicare, St. Therese Villa, Kids First Family Centre, and supporting families affected by Dementia at the Alzheimer’s Society.
Her heart was as big as her craft supply stash, and Her hobbies were as colourful as her personality — from baking and gardening to crafting with kids and seniors alike. An animal lover at heart, she turned her home into a "funny farm," at one point caring for three birds, five guinea pigs, and a dog. She was a proud member of the Lethbridge Parrot Club and attended Parrot Palooza, always up for a chat about her birds - Blu, Sydney and Tango. Her creative projects were just as lively; she loved capturing photos of her work to share with friends — from intricate pysanky eggs to hilarious Elf on the Shelf adventures and beautifully decorated cakes. She loved sharing a sweet treat with young and old, producing hundreds of snow cones at carnivals or Cotton candy for every occasion, Colleen’s house was a favourite trick or treating stop. Colleen embraced every moment with open arms, you would often find her celebrating at any local carnival, parade, expos, or festival. She was a member at the Magrath and Lethbridge gun ranges, And let’s not forget her favourite pink .22, because nothing says "multi-talented" like being a sharpshooter who could also bake the perfect pie.
She leaves behind her husband Norman and their daughter Alexis; her parents Robert and Loretta Moses; sister Brenda (Brian) Vandervalk; mother-in-law Nancy McLeod; father in law Bill (Jill) Beck; brother-in-law Jason Beck; nephews Tarren, Brenden, Aiden, Lochlan, and Caiden, niece Evangeline, and countless friends whose lives were made brighter by knowing her. Though her time here feels far too short, her warmth, humour, and endless kindness will be felt for years to come.
In true Colleen fashion, we’ll celebrate her life the way she would’ve wanted — with good conversation, laughter, stories, and remembering to feed the birds. And maybe a little crafting on the side.
Rest easy, Colleen. You were one of a kind.
A Celebration of Colleen’s Life will be held at 1:00pm on Friday, March 21, 2025 at MARTIN BROTHERS RIVERVIEW CHAPELS, 610 – 4 Street South, Lethbridge, Alberta.
