Antonetta Baer

Official Obituary of

20/6/1928 - to - 23/8/2021

On Monday, August  23, 2021 ANTONETTA (NETTA) BAER passed away at the age of 93 years at St.Therese Villas, leaving the world with a great deal less magic and grace.

Born June 20, 1928 to Anthony and Anna Maria Linders in north Lethbridge, she grew up in a strong Catholic family of six girls with her father after her mother died very young.  She attended high school and obtained her certificate from Garbit Business College.  During this time she was smitten by a handsome young man called Fred Baer.  They married on September 3, 1947.  And they created Ricky Baer who was a lucky son who enjoyed adventures and encouragement.  Because of Fred’s employment with John Deere, she moved from Lethbridge to Medicine Hat to Edmonton to Grande Prairie to Camrose and back to Grande Prairie.  In 1981 they moved to Burlington and back to Lethbridge in 1988 to retire.

Family was everything to Netta, especially her relationship with her five sisters and their families.  She had such great times at the Newcomers Club in Burlington and met life-long friends Louise and Glen Carther, Doug and Dora Laurie, and Eve and Bill Liston who lived next door.  Golfing, cross-country skiing, travelling to Myrtle Beach and Florida as well as Barbados and Puerto Rico, Netta and Fred had so much fun.  Adventures with Rick and Barb at Shuswap Lake houseboating and Tofino cabining by the ocean are brilliant memories.

Our Netta created adventures in her home on every special occasion and event.  She was an artist in every hobby.  She was the best dressed for every occasion and every season. She was magical!

She is survived by her most special son, Rick and daughter-in-law, Barb; her beloved sisters Vera Linders and Louise Reiter; her sister-in-law Barb Martens, Marlene Krogstad of Chicago, brother-in-law Max Baer of Chicago, brother- in-law Art (Pat) Baer of Carson City; her nephews Kevin (Cathy) of Picture Butte, Ward (Robin) of Iron Springs, Ray (Karen) Martens of Medicine Hat, James (Jane) Kerr of Toronto, David (Andrea) Krogstad of Chicago, Brett (Laura) Krogstad of Chicago, Raymond Baer of Chicago, Danny Baer of Carson City; her nieces Barb (Kevin) Viergutz of Coaldale, Caroline Linders of Lethbridge, Gaetanne (Sean) Murphy of Edmonton, Erin (Terry) Johnson of Picture Butte, Michele (John) Tavernini of Edmonton, Ann Marie (Danny) Joyce of Toronto, Marlene (Bob) Tobin of Chicago, Shirley Baer of Tempe.

She always will remember her grand and great nephews and nieces as well as their families who brought such joy and wonder to her life.  She had all their pictures on her very crowded bulletin board in her sewing room and talked lovingly of how lucky she was to have these children who shared her imagination.

She is predeceased by her soul mate, Fred; her sisters Lindy Kerr, Ricky Poirier, Nellie Hutton; her nephews Scott (Ruth) Reiter, David (Linda) Hutton, Terry (Donna) Hutton, Mark Poirier, Brian Kerr, Jimmy Baer; her niece Laurin Belcher; her brothers-in-law Barry (Louise) Reiter, Jim (Nellie) Hutton, Dave (Lindy) Kerr, Gil (Ricky) Poirier; and special family member Corne (Barb) Martens.

A Memorial Mass will be held at 10:00 am on Saturday August 28, 2021 at St. Basils ROMAN Catholic Church, 604 13 Street North, Lethbridge, Alberta with Father Kevin Tumbak, Celebrant.

All family and friends are welcome with the understanding that Covid protocols are in place. Lunch will not be provided but the family will be hosting a Celebration of Netta’s life in safer times.  Everyone is invited!

Interment to follow at St. Patrick’s Cemetery.  Netta and Fred are reunited.  Their ashes will be buried together.
