Marjorie Baburam
Official Obituary of
14/9/1921 - to - 30/10/2011
It is with great sadness that we announce the death of MARJORIE KATHLEEN BABURAM (nee Clarke), who went home to be with her Lord. Marjorie passed away peacefully in her home on October 30th, 2011. She is survived by her daughter, Hilda Simmons, granddaughter, Margaret Simmons and son-in-law, Basil Simmons.
She is also survived by her siblings, Nellie Houston (Tommy-deceased) of Edmonton, June Persaud (Harold) of Jacksonville, Florida and Joe Clark of Georgetown, Guyana. Marjorie is also survived by: nephew Keith Houston (Annette) and kids, Thomas, Elsa and Bala of Vancouver, Johannes of Los Angeles; niece, Kirsten (Rudolph) and kids Akeem and Ayesha Reece, of Edmonton, Alberta. As well as, Brian Houston and family of Edmonton; Sandra and Alan Knight (niece and nephew) of Los Angeles, California, her extended family in New York and many nieces, nephews and extended family who she loved very much all over the world.
Marjorie was born on September 14, 1921 in Berbice, Guyana to Lucille Murray Clark and Vernon Clark. She is predeceased by the true love of her life, husband, Clement Kuldip Baburam, whom she missed every day; daughter, Rose Marie Baburam; mother Lucille Murrary Clarke; father Vernon Clarke; grandson Basil Jr.; nephews Akbar Reece, Carlos, and Gerald Knight, whom she loved very much. She is also predeceased by siblings, Eustus, Basil, Vibert, Dorothy, George and Desmond.
Marjorie immigrated to Canada in 1976 to join her daughter and family. She lived a full life and lived on her own terms. She never was afraid to tell it like it was, sometimes with humor and sometimes not. She loved her family and her Lord. She especially was fond of the many children she baby sat over the years. She called them her kids and looked after them as though they were her own. Her albums are filled with pictures of all the kids in her family, extended family and those she babysat. She also enjoyed a good laugh and was known to tease those she loved.
Marjorie was an independent lady until her stroke in 2008. Those who knew her remembered how she would take the bus downtown to meet her friends at the Public Library or the Bay and in the old days for lunch at Kresge's or Woolworths. She was a kind soul and would never hesitate to help anyone in need.
She was very proud of her daughter, Hilda whom she nicknamed, Ginger. She raised her on her own after Clement passed away while in university in the USA. She kept her poems and published works and would show them to family and friends. She was not a demonstrative person, but yet she found ways to let you know you were loved. She also deeply loved her only granddaughter, Margaret, and was always proud of her, no matter where life took her. She wrote many letters of love and encouragement to Margaret over the years. Oh, she was a great letter writer and expected to receive on back for everyone she wrote and could not understand why people would use computers to write a letter.
She also deeply loved her son-in-law, Basil (Billy) who helped Hilda and Margaret take care of her after her stroke in 2008. He was the son she did not have. They would occasionally share a wine or beer together, even if Billy had to sneak her one as she knew Ginger would not allow it with her medication. She was never the same after the stroke, but her mind was sharp until the last few months of her life and like the kind of person she was, worried about how her illness was affecting those around her. Mummy, Aunt Molly, Marjorie, -you will be missed. Rest now with your Lord, Jesus Christ and your family that went before you.
The family would like to thank the home care workers from Lethbridge Family Services, as well thank the #1 Station EMS, Police and Victim Services.
A Funeral Mass will be held at 1:00pm on Saturday, November 5th, 2011 at OUR LADY OF THE ASSUMPTION CHURCH, 2405 - 12 Ave South, Lethbridge, with Father Tim Boyle officiating.
