Lila Avann

Official Obituary of

5/9/1929 - to - 7/1/2012

Lila Shue Avann passed away on January 7, 2012 after a courageous battle with cancer.

Lila was born on September 5, 1929, in Treherne, Manitoba to George (Yip Quong) Yuen and Mary Wong.

Lila took her nurses training at Grey Nun's Hospital in Regina, Saskatchewan where she pursued her love of caring for people.

She returned to Reston, Manitoba, to help with the family restaurant and it was there that she met the love of her life, her husband Alfred Edward ""Shorty"" Avann, when he would stop in for a meal before going to a curling game.

Lila and Shorty were married in Regina, Saskatchewan, and moved to Maryfield, Saskatchewan, where they owned and operated a shoe repair, clothing and farm equipment parts business. It was in Maryfield that they had their first child, Thomas Alfred Avann. The following year they moved to Moosomin, Saskatchewan, and had their second child, Elizabeth Anne Avann.

Lila was a homemaker and cherished her family above all else. She was a gentle spirit with an open door policy for anyone who needed company. Over the years she became a second mother to many of her nieces, nephews and all of the children that would come to her house for music lessons.

She was an integral part of the Music Festival Association in Moosomin, and took great pride in her church where she assisted with numerous teas, bazaars and prayer meetings.

After the passing of her husband, Lila moved to Brandon, Manitoba, to be with her sister Dorothy Sexey.

As the years passed, Lila wanted to be with her children so she moved to Lethbridge, Alberta, in 2003, where she enjoyed a great life. Her days were filled with looking after her Shih Tzu ""Misty"" and keeping the home full of love.

Lila is predeceased by her mother, father, sister Jenny Mae Yuen and brothers Peter Lim Yuen, Peter King Shing, Willie Shing, Dorothy Sexey and Pete Ming Shing. Lila will be remembered with great love by her surviving sister Anna Mae Ko, brother Stuart Shing, Thomas, Elizabeth Anne (Upton) and her nephews and nieces.

A Funeral Service will be held at 2:00pm on Thursday, January 12, 2012 at ST. AUGUSTINE'S ANGLICAN CHURCH, 411 - 11 Street South, Lethbridge with Reverend Chris Roth officiating.

Memorial donations in memory of Lila Shue Avann can be made to St. Alban's Anglican Church in Moosomin, 701 Ellice St, Moosomin, SK S0G 3N0 or to the Salvation Army Community & Friends Services, 1811 - 2 Ave South, Lethbridge, AB T1J 2C9.
