Martin Hudecek Obituary

Martin Frank Hudecek, beloved husband of Ann Hudecek passed away peacefully surrounded by his family at Edith Cavell Care Centre in Lethbridge on Tuesday, April 26, 2022, at the age of 88 years.

Martin was born in Knezdub, Czechoslovakia on April 18th, 1934. He leaves his loving wife of nearly 64 years, Ann, and his four children and their families: Christine (Ken Rogers) and their children Christopher (Yi Guo) and Camille; Caroline (Martin Cuffe) and their daughter Sarah; Michael (Wendy) and their children Nolan and Hayden; Nadine (David Granson) and their children Emily, Brandon, and Dylan.  Martin was pre-deceased by his parents Mary (Babicek) and Martin Hudecek, and his brother, Ladislav and his sister, Marie, both of whom passed away as young children.

Martin was four when he came to Canada with his parents. They settled in the Readymade area, where Martin grew up and helped his father on the farm.

After high school, Martin apprenticed as a mechanic. He met the love of his life, Ann, and they married in Coaldale in 1958. They had four children, Christine, Caroline, Michael, and Nadine, and enjoyed numerous family adventures, including many camping trips, Waterton picnics, and horse shows. Martin was a volunteer fire fighter for the town of Coaldale for over 10 years. From 1960 to 1981, he was a trustee and chairman of the Coaldale Separate School District Board. Martin worked as an auto mechanic in several service stations before managing a Pacific 66/Petro-Canada service station in Lethbridge. He then opened his own auto repair shop before finishing his career at the Lethbridge College.

In 1999, he retired and enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, taking several trips, including a tour of Alaska, and a Europe trip that included a return to his country of birth, the Czech Republic. He loved tinkering and fixing things in his back garage.

Martin’s family is grateful to the staff at Edith Cavell Care Centre for their loving care, especially during his last days.

He will be forever in the hearts of those who love him.
