It is with much sorrow we announce the passing of our father Josef Buchmann, beloved husband of Lore Buchmann. He passed away peacefully in his home at the age of 83, on Thursday, June 3, 2021.
Born in Germany, June of 1937, he found himself wanting to travel at the age of 20 years. He boarded the MS Seven Seas, setting sail for Canada, arriving in the fall of 1957. Dad chose to travel across Canada by train and settle in Lethbridge.
Because he had the unenjoyable experience of the scarcity of food during the war in his early years, Joe researched and learned that Lethbridge was an area of agriculture, which meant there would always be a source of food nearby. A finishing carpenter by trade, he quickly found work in his field.
One day while driving in downtown Lethbridge, he spied his future wife Lore, and they married December 9, 1961. Together they had four children, and four grandchildren.
He kept busy with various activities throughout his life, from raising chinchillas for fur, owning a hobby farm, loved having animals, and thoroughly enjoyed sharing his knowledge and experiences with his kids and grandkids.
Having strong math skills, various card games factored heavily in his pastime, and for many years Joe and Lore had fun together travelling Western Canada attending Skat tournaments and making friends.
Also dear to his heart were the vacations that took them back to Germany, to spend time with family and school classmates.
Joe is survived and will be dearly missed by his wife of 59 years, Lore; his children: Mike, Lisa (Brad), Rosie (Marlin) and John; and their four grandchildren Trevor (Dakota), Cayleigh (Ethan), Shane (Elisa) and Clay.
Joe was predeceased by his parents Josef and Margarete Buchmann, and his two brothers Reinhold and Paul.
Joe will be lovingly remembered by his family and friends.
