Joan Gloria Schaufele

Joan Gloria Schaufele went to be with her Lord on Wednesday, July 1, 2020, at the age of 63 years.

Joan was born on March 3, 1957 in Taber, Alberta, to Albert and Sarah (Sally) Schaufele from Bow Island. She was the much-loved sister of John (Rennie) Schaufele, Paul (Betty-Jo) Schaufele, Rachel (Wayne) Booker, and Sue (Bill) Smienk.

For many years, Joan was an extraordinary math and handbell teacher at Glenmore Christian Academy in Calgary. In 2006, Joan was diagnosed with multiple myeloma (blood cancer) and retired from teaching. Once she was in remission, Joan moved back to Lethbridge to be closer to her family, including dearly loved nieces, nephews, and great nieces and great nephews. She was also an active member of several handbell choirs, Lethbridge Scottish Country Dancing and was a passionate quilter.

Friends and family are invited to pay their respects from 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. on Sunday, July 5, 2020, at MARTIN BROTHERS RIVERVIEW CHAPEL, 610 4 Street South, Lethbridge, Alberta. Due to the restrictions in place from the Chief Medical Officer of Health – Funeral Services are now limited to 100 attendees. Including family and Funeral Home Staff.

Friends are also welcomed to attend an outdoor send off with an honour guard and bagpipes at 11:00 A.M. on Monday, July 6, 2020 (in the parking lot at Martin Brothers) before the family leaves for a private service and burial.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks for donations to be made to Southern Alberta Bible Camp, Box 99, Lomond, AB TOL IGO, Myeloma Canada, 1255 Trans Canada Route, Dorval, Quebec H9P 2V4, or a charity of one’s choice.
