Jean Robin Obituary

Jean Taylor (Black) Robin, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, died in Lethbridge on Tuesday, March 12, 2024, at the age of 96 years.

Jean was born on August 10, 1927, to Jack and Cinda Black, and spent her childhood on the family farm near Wainwright.  In 1946, after five months of teacher training as a member of the War Emergency Class, she began teaching school at the age of 18 ½ years.  She later attended the University of Alberta, and after each completing education degrees, Jean and Keith Robin were married in 1951, and moved to Southern Alberta, where they both began teaching at Barrhill School.

Jean was a dedicated volunteer for organizations such as Meals on Wheels and the McKillop United Church Women.  She took great pride in her many years of work with the Music and Speech Arts Festival, at the local, provincial, and national levels, and was delighted to have met so many young performers.  In 2006 Jean was honoured as a YWCA Woman of Distinction.  Keith and Jean were members of McKillop United Church since 1957, and Jean served her church in many ways.

Jean loved to read and was keenly interested in global events and enjoyed solving crossword and cryptic crossword puzzles.  She was a terrific cook and bread baker, enjoyed gardening, and liked to watch curling.  Most of all, she loved her family.  Jean was by nature a serious, no-nonsense person, with a kind heart and a wonderful dry sense of humour.  We will miss her.

Jean was predeceased by her husband Keith in 2018.

She is survived by her children and their families:

     - Bruce and Sandra Robin of Cochrane

     - Colin Robin and Krystle Wittevrongel and their son Jack, of Calgary

     - Cameron Robin and Jessica Bateman of Cochrane

     - David and Laura Robin of Ottawa

     - Emily Robin-Sauer and Jordan Sauer and their daughter Sydney, of Vancouver

     - Jessica Robin and Dan Abrams and their son Ethan, of Vancouver

     - Joan and Gerald Rogers of Lethbridge

     - Gerald Rogers of Vancouver

Jean also leaves her sister-in-law Jeanette (Bryan) Liden, of St. Albert, and her family.
