Faye Foxall Oshiro

Faye Foxall Oshiro, of Coaldale, Alberta passed away on February 23, 2019, at the age of 91 years.

She is survived by two sons Wayne (Gayle) Foxall and Don (Cindy) Foxall; daughter-in-law Judy Foxall; two brothers Russell Fairhurst, and Douglas Fairhurst; sister-in-law Grace Fairhurst; eight grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews, all whom she dearly dearly loved.

Faye is predeceased by her husband Earl J. Foxall “Squeak”; second husband Dr. Jim Oshiro; her parents Flora and Lyle Fairhurst; her sister Thelma and husband Jack Elliott; her brother Lyle Fairhurst; her son Doug; her granddaughter Krystal England.

Squeak was the love of her life. During the war, she sent a picture to him to lift his spirits. She became the “pin up girl” for the barracks and service men wrote Mom letters of appreciation. This convinced him he needed to marry that girl!

After Squeak’s passing, Faye married Dr. Jim Oshiro, a life-long friend and family doctor. He too was in the war and shared many of his stories with the family.

Faye grew up in Coaldale and never wanted to leave her home community. Her family owned “The Biggest

Little Hotel in the Country”, the Coaldale Hotel which was the gathering place for all friends and family. From softball games, badminton tournaments, organized sports to political events, she enjoyed them all. Shopping was a favourite and usually involved coming home with a new pair of shoes!

Faye worked in the clerical field at the Coaldale Health Unit as office manager and secretary for the Medical Officer until her retirement. She was an advocate and supporter for The Coaldale Fire Department and Emergency Services.

Faye loved to laugh and have a visit, even when “her Irish was up”, she had a smile. She could never get enough of any celebration with family and friends, never wanting it to end. Visits from out-of- town relatives or drop-in surprises, all were welcome in her home if she could make you happy, she was happy. When the Coaldale Health Centre became her home, she looked forward to any activity and celebration with enthusiasm. She made many new friends and deeply cherished both old and new.

Faye was one to get up early in the morning, put her face on, style her hair, and greet the day with dignity and class!

Her family is forever grateful to the compassionate caregivers and friends at the Coaldale Health Centre who enriched her life by your kindness and friendship.

A heartfelt thank you to the excellent care by the doctors and nurses at the Lethbridge Regional Hospital.

By request, a private Family Graveside service will be held at a later date.

Mom felt truly blessed to have you all in her life and wished to be remembered by sharing a story or two.
