Ellen Flossie King

It is with intense sadness that the family of Ellen King announces her passing on April 4, 2022. Ellen was in her 105th year. Ellen lived an exceptional life, beloved by her family and friends.

She was born in Indian Head, Saskatchewan to Harris and Sarah May on February 20, 1918. There were five children in the family, and everyone moved to Lethbridge when Ellen was almost 18. She finished high school there and met her future husband, and the love of her life, Jack King, before graduating. They were married on November 5, 1942, raised three sons, and celebrated almost 73 years of marriage before Jack passed away in 2015.

Ellen loved her sons, her daughters-in-law, grandchildren and great-grandchildren very much. We all knew we were cherished and appreciated. She was a gift in our lives. Ellen made the absolute best pies, as anyone who was fortunate enough to be given a portion will confirm. Ellen loved to knit, making many sweaters, not just for her, but for family and items for United Church bazaars. She was a founding member of the 48 Group at the church and offered much to the group well into her senior years. She and Jack made many trips to Kauai to golf, enjoy the sun and get away from Canadian winters. Golfing, playing bridge with the ladies, reading, crossword puzzles and gardening filled her hours. She had a marvelous garden that was a joy to behold.

Ellen was predeceased by her husband, Jack King; parents Harris May and Sarah May; parents-in-law John and May King; brothers Stanley May, Gordon May, and Les May; and sister Alice Kemshead.

She is survived by her sons, Brian (Ruth) King, Ken (Jenny) King, and Bill (Charmaine) King; grandchildren Michael King (Megan Miller), Jeff (Amanda) King, Lindsay (Justin) Caughey, Jill (Dylan Carter) King, Alex King (Tiffany Bates) and Chelsea (Patrick Wensveen) King; great-grandchildren Liam, Joel and Etta King; Loralai and Holden Caughey; and Sienna and Cailey Carter; sister-in-law Mavis May; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

A private Inurnment Ceremony will be held at 2:00 pm, on Wednesday, April 13, 2022. The service will be recorded and posted later on https://www.fhwebsites.org/ymb/obituary/Ellen-King for those who wish to watch.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Canadian Red Cross, 335 Columbia Blvd W, Lethbridge, AB T1K 5Y8.
