Eileen Lawson Obituary

Mrs. Eileen Lawson, beloved wife of the late William “Bill” Lawson, passed into the presence of her Lord and Savior at St Therese Villa on Saturday, January 5, 2019, at the age of 95 years.

Eileen was born in Coleraine, Northern Ireland on March 13, 1923 at the family farm, “Englishtown”. Following graduation from Coleraine Technical College she worked as a civil servant in the Ministry of Commerce, then the Law Courts. Later she felt the call of God on her life to vocational ministry and enrolled at the Faith Mission Bible College in Edinburgh. For 6 years she served as a “pilgrim” with the Faith Mission, conducting missions throughout northern Scotland. It was during one of those missions she met Bill and was married on May 29, 1952. Four years later with 2 small children they immigrated to Canada, to the Toronto area, where they added 2 more sons. In 1977 they moved to Calgary where she managed the Canadian office for Mission to Children. In 2006 they moved to Lethbridge where she has resided since.

Eileen became a follower of Christ as a young woman. She is remembered for her unwavering commitment to Jesus, lived out in tireless support of her husband, raising her children, and serving her church. She served in many capacities in every church where she worshipped; teaching Sunday School, committee member, hospitality, and always visiting seniors. She was a gracious host, offering hospitality to friends and strangers whenever she could.

In her retirement years she and Bill loved to travel and to visit their growing family. For years they served with Roving Volunteers in Christ’s Service, always in warmer climates and in the winter. Suffering the effects of Alzheimer’s disease, she became a shadow of her true self. In spite of her weakening mind her faith in Christ remained evident. Thank you to the staff at St Therese Villa for their extraordinary and compassionate care of mom over the past three years.

Eileen is survived by four sons: Ian of Lethbridge, Andrew of Edmonton, Paul (Doris) of Cranbrook, Stephen (Lesley) of Abbotsford, 14 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. Besides her husband of 60 years, Eileen was predeceased by 3 brothers, 2 sisters, 2 daughters-in-law Kathy and Connie, and two great-grandsons, Liam and Jaxton.
