Bonnie Sicluna Obituary

On April 28, 2021, we said a sad farewell to Bonnie Elaine Sicluna of Lethbridge, Alberta, beloved wife of George Sicluna, who finally found well-deserved rest after a long battle with Parkinson Disease, at the age of 72 years.

She was born in Saskatchewan, Bonnie spent the majority of her formative years in British Columbia, graduating high school in Quesnel, BC.

The eldest of four siblings, Bonnie’s upbringing was boisterous and full. She met George when he stopped by to tell his brother - her date - a joke. That one joke led to a wonderful nearly 47 years together. Bonnie and George raised two daughters while chasing adventure (and the mining industry) all over Canada.

Bonnie loved crafts of all kinds, reading, camping and travel but her truest passion was her people. She loved her family fiercely and wanted nothing more than to spend time together around the dinner table, a game of cards or a cup of tea. She made sure to call her daughters regularly, even if it meant they had to sit on the phone and listen while she watched her soap opera after work.

Bonnie loved to serve and help anyone, but she really hit her stride when the grandchildren came along. There wasn’t a thing in the world she wouldn’t sew, craft, bake, hold, bandaid or kiss better for those grand babies. There are seven in total, and she was thoroughly wrapped around the finger of each and every one.

Bonnie was blessed to invest in the lives of others through her career as well, first as a elementary school teacher’s assistant and later as an assistant at Lethbridge’s Flexibility Learning Systems, where she helped newcomers to Canada learn the language and make Canada their new home.

Besides her loving husband George, Bonnie is survived by her daughters Lisa (Mike) Doerksen of Lethbridge and Jana (John) Siljak of Nanaimo, BC. As well, she leaves behind Jalen, Daysen, Alex, Ben, Cassie, Broden and Miken, each of whom will miss those relentless Grandma hugs.

Bonnie is also survived by her sister Lynn (Al) Burns; brothers Jim (Blanche) Wilson and Don (Colleen Weidlich) Wilson; sister-in-law June (Aubrey) Ully, along with numerous nieces, nephews and their families.

She was pre-deceased by her parents Robert and Denise Wilson, father- and mother-in-law Henry and Margaret Sicluna and her brother-in-law Jack Sicluna.

To know Bonnie was to love her, and we will miss her every day.

A celebration of life will be held at a future date, as Covid restrictions allow.

Cremation has been entrusted to Martin Brothers Funeral Chapels.

Flowers are gratefully declined, but for those who wish, memorial donations may be made to the Parkinson Association of Alberta, 11209 86 St NW, Edmonton, AB T5B 3H7.
