August Matthew Kaupp of New Dayton, beloved husband of Anne Helen Kaupp, passed away on January 3, 2022, at the age of 95 years.
Born November 15, 1926 to Clarence and Clara Kaupp on a homestead in New Dayton, the oldest boy in a family of eleven children. As a young boy, he attended Troy school until it closed and then finished his schooling in New Dayton. He grew up working hard on the family farm and continued to work hard for his family and community all his life. In 1951 he travelled to Kaslo, BC to visit family, where he met his pride and joy, his wife Anne. The two were married August 15th, 1953 and travelled back to New Dayton where they began their life together, a life of farming, family and faith. August was a pillar of his community and beloved by all who knew him. Over the years, he and Anne supported the community in as many ways as they could, including but not limited to cooking meals at the soup kitchen, delivering meals on wheels, delivering communion, and conducting services at senior’s homes. August was involved in 4H, he was a Cub’s leader for 10 years, drove seniors to mass and was a greeter at the church. He gave all of himself and if there was something to be done, he would be the one to do it. August and Anne built a Shrine for the Blessed Virgin Mary in their backyard with help from the family. On August 15th, 1988, August and Anne hosted the first annual pilgrimage to the Holey Double A Marion Shrine which would grow to be a beloved community event, attended by visitors from all over the world. They continued to host these celebrations for 30 years. August enjoyed baseball and basketball and was curling into his eighties. Above all, he loved his family and cherished all events that brought them together, from sausage making to family reunions.
Besides his loving wife Anne, August is survived by his children David (Ann), Bernadette, Joseph (Tina), Anita (Warren), Stephen (Michelle), and Bradley (Cheryl). August is also survived by his grandchildren, including Travis (Ana), Shawn (Jenay), Matthew, Chelsea (Daniel), Paul (Melissa), Scott (Dana), Katie, Levi, Tyler and Eliot, and his great grandchildren Kiana, Dean, Mason, Hayes, Wren, Clara, James, Felix, Charlotte and Owen. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, foster children and their families. He was predeceased by his daughter Theresa. August was a loving husband and father, a good and faithful servant of the lord, a man after God’s heart. He led by example and will be greatly missed by all. We know that our blessed mother Mary was there to welcome August into the loving arms of Jesus Christ.
