It is with great sadness that the family of Joe Wood announce his passing on Wednesday, January 31, 2024, at the age of 92 years.

Joe was born in Lethbridge on May 16, 1931. He was a loving, caring husband, father and grandfather who was so proud to be called “Gida” by his grandchildren. He supported them with his attendance at their hockey and ringette games, dance recitals and whatever else they were involved in. Dad was a passionate Studebaker collector and was a member of the Southern Alberta Antique & Classic Auto Club, travelling with mom across the country to many car meets.

After 31years, dad retired a Senior Captain with the Lethbridge Fire Department. He made many lifelong friends, including those who helped with the restoration of the antique fire engine, which is now on display in local parades.

Before becoming a firefighter, dad spent time in the Navy and many stories were shared. He always loved the company of a dog, and there was always a companion in the house.

Joe is survived by his loving children Garnett (Shannon) Wood, Robert (Gail) Wood, T.J (Ryan) Wood-Loo; grandchildren Jaimee and Brittyn Wood, Thane, Brittney and Hailey Wood, and Madyson and R.J Loo.

He was predeceased by his wife Ann and son Rick.

At dad’s request, a private family service was held.
