Johanna “Annie” Starrenburg

1931 ~ 2017

Mrs. Johanna “Annie” Starrenburg of Lethbridge, beloved wife of the late Mr. Gerrit Starrenburg, passed away peacefully at St. Michael’s Health Centre on July 27, 2017 at the age of 85 years.

Annie loved being at home either reading, doing crosswords, working in her garden or working on a special homemade project for a loved one. She enjoyed visits at coffee time which would always be accompanied with homemade cookies or a piece of her famous apple pie.

Annie is survived by her daughter Martina Merkl (Dana); two sons, Leen Starrenburg (Barb) and Peter Starrenburg (Diane); grandchildren Jeremiah Merkl (Margaret), Chris Merkl, Melissa Merkl (Sheldon), Ryan Starrenburg (Inid), Simon Starrenburg, and Jeff Starrenburg; great-grandchildren Eric, Kaytlin, Silus and Rhey; sisters Martha Rab, and Theodora Straathof (Cerdic); brother Dirk Straathof (Evelyn); sisters-in-law Judy Straathof, and Jo-Anne Fiske; brothers-in-law Wim Rab (Cobi) and Nick Brandhorst (Tressa); as well as numerous nieces, nephews and their families.

Annie was predeceased by her parents Theodorus and Martina Straathof; sisters Elizabeth Rab, and Martina Klooster; brothers Gerard Straathof, Leen Straathof, and Cornelius Straathof; and son-in-law Dana Merkl.

Family and friends are invited to a Celebration of Life Reception that will begin at 1:30pm on Wednesday, August 2, 2017 at MARTIN BROTHERS FUNERAL CHAPELS, 610 - 4 Street S, Lethbridge, Alberta.
