It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of James Oshiro in Lethbridge, with family by his side on Wednesday, May 17, 2023, at the age of 93 years.

Left to cherish his memory are his children Carlee Oshiro-Fallis of Calgary, Darrell (Jennifer) Oshiro of Vernon, Carol (Dan) Merkle of Lethbridge, Jaylene Oshiro of Calgary; grandchildren Cole, Chase, Cali (Tyson), Kayla, Graydon (Katie) and Courtney. James is also survived by his brother George (Grace) Oshiro, sister-in-law Aki, as well as many nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his wife Daisy; parents Howa and Moto Oshiro; siblings Ted, Scotty, Mace, Mary, Duke; sisters-in-law Ruby, Julie and brother-in-law Seiji.

James was born January 29, 1930, in Raymond, Alberta. He received his teaching degree from the University of Alberta. He taught in Iron Springs, Readymade and Taber.  James was an exceptional educator and role model for his students and fellow teachers for 30 years.

James and Daisy spent their early retirement in the Okanagan and returned to southern Alberta residing in Coaldale and finally settling in Lethbridge in 2014.

James was an avid golfer and curler, he found ways when he wasn’t on the course or ice to volunteer his time to organize golf tournaments and bonspiels.

James loved to spend time with his family and was so proud of his grandchildren’s achievements and took great pride in their scholastic and athletic accomplishments.

A Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 AM, on Saturday, May 27, 2023 at MARTIN BROTHERS RIVERVIEW CHAPEL, 610, 4 STREET SOUTH, Lethbridge, Alberta with  Reverend Yasuo Izumi, officiating.

James’ family is very grateful for the assistance he received from the Lethbridge Family Home Services while residing at the Seasons Lethbridge Gardens. Additionally, James’ family would like to thank the nurses and staff at the Good Samaritans West Highlands Centre for all of their care and support.
