JANNIGJE “JANNY” KREFT

1920 ~ 2017

With sorrow we announce the passing away of our dear mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, Mrs. Janny Kreft, loving wife of the late Mr. Dirk Kreft, on Sunday, June 4, 2017 at the Chinook Regional Hospital at the age of 97 years.

Born, raised and educated in the Netherlands, Janny married Dirk on February 25, 1944. Together they immigrated to Canada in June of 1949 to Southern Alberta, farming in the Picture Butte and Coaldale areas. They retired in 1980 and moved into Coaldale where she lived for many years. In her final years, Janny resided in the Bethesda Care Home.

She is survived by her children; James (Nelleke), Peter (Lia), Tony (Nellie), Trudy (Louie) Bouma, John (Rita), Mary (Dick) Van Harberden, son-in-law Aris Slingerland and daughter-in-law Dorothy Kreft Vandemunt (Nelis), 37 grandchildren, 83 great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her brother Nick (Tressa) Brandhorst of Lethbridge, two sisters, Marie and Teuntje in the Netherlands.

Janny was predeceased by her husband Dirk, daughter Margaret, son Richard, two grandchildren, Adrian and Brian Kreft, two brothers and one sister in the Netherlands.

Condolences will be held between 7:30-8:30pm, on Wednesday, June 7, 2017 at the NETHERLANDS REFORMED CONGREGATION, Hwy 3 & RR21-1 (Howe Road)

A Funeral Service will be held at 2:00pm, on Thursday, June 8, 2017 at the NETHERLANDS REFORMED CONGREGATION, Hwy 3 & RR21-1 (Howe Road), with Rev. H.D. den Hollander officiating. Interment will follow in the Coaldale Community Cemetery.
