With great love and sadness, the family of Hedwig Littau (nee Ebner) announces her passing on Sunday, June 28, 2026, in Lethbridge, Alberta.

Hedwig was born on October 14, 1931, in Klonowo, Poland. She lived in Germany as a teenager and young adult before emigrating to southern Alberta as a young married woman in 1954. Eventually, the family moved to Hardieville and then to Lethbridge. Reinhold and Hedwig worked hard to realize their dream of owning their own farm. After retirement, they returned to Lethbridge, where she resided until her passing at the age of 94.

Hedwig was predeceased by her husband, Reinhold Schiemann; her second husband, William Littau; her parents, Emil and Ella Ebner; and five sisters, Wanda Schiemann, Agnes Schrage, Else Rupps, Helen Bonn, and Ursula Heynen.

She will be lovingly remembered by her children, Heidi Clarke (Bill), Karl Schiemann, Lily Schiemann (Ian Robertson), and Rosemarie Schiemann (John Bohonis); her grandchildren, Deakan Clarke, Evan Clarke (Maggie), Brigitte Robertson (Ryan Stang), Bronte Robertson (Chris Baltis), Chelsea Hoffard (Wesley); and several great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister, Gertrud (Erwin) Pohl; brothers, Alfred Ebner and Reinhold (Josephine) Ebner; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Hedwig will be remembered for her tremendous love, generosity, energy, and service. She was devoted to her God and honoured Him by serving wherever she perceived a need. She loved to cook and bake, and her home was always immaculate. She enjoyed growing plants both indoors and outdoors and grew a fabulous garden. She loved sewing and knitting for her children and grandchildren. Over the years, she knitted countless items for others and provided decades of service by knitting baby hats for newborns at the hospital, as well as countless toques for the homeless. Her tenacious loyalty was legendary and will be greatly missed.

A Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, July 3, 2026, at MARTIN BROTHERS RIVERVIEW CHAPEL, 610–4 Street South, Lethbridge, AB, with Pastor Lee Loveridge officiating. To watch the service via livestream, please visit: https://www.mbfunerals.com/obituaries/hedwig-littau
