Minnie “Mickey” Davids
1919 ~ 2018
Minnie (Mickey) Davids, passed away peacefully on March 3, 2018. Mickey was predeceased by her loving husband of 66 years, Hy, and grandson Ryan. Mickey was the beloved Mother of Harvey (Margaret-Rose), Ken (Sheila), Barry (Karen), and Beverly (Harvey) Silverstone, and sister-in-law of Doreen Gorlin (Palm Springs). She was the much-loved Baba/”GG” to her special dividends of 8 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. She was adored by her adopted children Rose Kuizenga and Dienie (Arie) Schalk and families.
Mickey was a true woman of valor. Born in Calgary, she was raised in Detroit and Los Angeles, inspiring her love of the Detroit Tigers and Red Wings. Upon her marriage to Hy in 1943, she moved to Lethbridge where she resided until 2011. She was a founding Board member of the Lethbridge YWCA and Family Services, as well as an Honorary Life Member of the Canadian Mental Health Association with over 20 years of service. Mickey was active with Hadassah-Wizo, National Council of Jewish Women and the Lethbridge Beth Israel Synagogue – holding many key positions. She was an inspiration to all. In her sixties, Mickey went back to work, managing the Lethbridge Classique Dancewear store. Moving to Calgary, Mickey enjoyed 7 years at Trinity Lodge, where she is known for her bright smile, positive personality, kind words, sense of humour and love of song. To know Mickey was to love her. She was a gift to us all.
The family wants to thank the staff at Trinity Lodge for their care, especially Emma, Jean, Lydia, Mercy, Mel, and Rosie. Special thanks to Mom’s companions – Gloria, Alma, Mel, Cathy and Mary Anne.
