Frederic “Fred” Walter Burton
1923 ~ 2017
Mr. Frederic “Fred” Walter Burton passed away on Sunday March 12, 2017 at the age of 93 years.
Fred was born in Lethbridge, September 29, 1923. He moved with his parents (Fred and Laura Burton) to Readymade where he attended school. In 1940 he joined the RCAF and was stationed in England where he was a wireless operator on a Lancaster Bomber. In 1943 he met Mollie Towler and they were married a year and a half later in Ripon Cathedral on September 29, 1945. When the war was over Fred and Mollie came back to Canada and together they raised four daughters, Sylvia, Roberta, Linda and Brenda. Fred farmed for many years in the Readymade area and in 1961 moved to Chin where he raised purebred Aberdeen Angus cattle.
When he retired from farming, he sold real estate and obtained his auctioneers licence and worked for Handley Auction for many years. Fred served on many committees and was a lifelong member of the Royal Canadian Legion and just received his 50 year service pin. After Mollie passed away in 2005, Fred moved to Sunrise Village where he spent his last eleven years.
Fred is survived by his daughters, Sylvia (Fred) Geworsky of Lethbridge, Alberta, Roberta Bochan of Lethbridge, Alberta, Linda (Jack) Hart of Sherwood Park, Alberta and Brenda Burton (Lloyd Schwartz) of Lethbridge, Alberta. Fred is also survived by his grandchildren, Mark (Cindy) Geworsky, Cathy Sawatzky (Ecky Pilz), Taylor Coe, Michael (Sonja) Coe, Bobby (Andrea) Bochan, Tim (Krystal) Bochan, Susan (Mark) Fitzsimmons, Leah (Steve) McBride, and Kevin Mussieux. He is also survived by 19 Great Grandchildren and 4 Great-Great Grandchildren.
Fred was predeceased by his wife Mollie Burton, his parents Fred and Laura Burton, his brother Robert Burton, his sister in law Alberta Burton and his son in law Ted Bochan.
He was a loving father and friend and will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 1:00PM on Thursday, March 16, 2017 at ST. AUGUSTINE’S ANGLICAN CHURCH, 411- 11 Street South, Lethbridge, AB. Canon Allan McCuaig, officiating. Inurnment will follow in the Mountain View Cemetery.
