Katherine “Timmy” Bell Black

1916 ~ 2016

Katherine “Timmy” Bell Black of Lethbridge, passed away at Edith Cavell Care Centre on Saturday, January 23, 2016 at the age of 99 years.

Timmy was born in Oak Point, NB and grew up on a dairy farm outside of Sackville, NB. She attended Mt. Allison University obtaining a BSc in Home Economics in 1938. She then entered the nursing training program at the Royal Victoria Hospital in Montreal. After graduating in 1941, she nursed in Quebec and then Edmonton. It was there that she met Alan Bell whom she married in 1947. The young couple moved to Montreal and then Saint John, NB where both their children Susan and Tim were born. The family moved back to Alberta, eventually settling in Lethbridge where Timmy spent the rest of her life.

Following Alan’s death in 1973, Timmy was fortunate to find a new life partner, marrying John Black in 1974. They shared 29 wonderful years filled with cruises, time in Waterton and Rosen Lake, golfing and entertaining their many friends.

She gave back to the community through her involvement with the Lethbridge Music Club, the YWCA, the IODE and the Southminster United Church women’s group.

Timmy was predeceased by her parents Charles and Marion Inch; her sister Madeline McKinnon Brands; her first husband Alan Bell, and her second husband John Black.

She is survived by her children Susan (Colin) Boyer and Tim (Brenda) Bell; her grandchildren Kristina (Ath Caramanolis) Boyer, Katherine Boyer, Meredith Boyer, Matthew Bell, and Carson Bell; her great grandson Elliott Caramanolis; and her stepchildren Ginny (John) Hoopfer, Bob (Patricia) Black and their children, Dianna, Colleen and Tim.

Friends and family will remember Timmy as a gracious and kind lady. She adored her family and especially cherished the times they spent together at Rosen Lake, one of her favorite places.

There are so many people who enriched Timmy’s life; lifelong friends, new friends made at Martha House and the staff of both Martha House and Edith Cavell Care Centre.

Timmy did not wish for a funeral, however, arrangements regarding a Celebration of Life will be announced at a later date.
