Wedad Cassis

Mrs. Wedad Cassis of Lethbridge, beloved wife of the late Dr. Gamil Cassis, passed away peacefully at Chinook Regional Hospital on Thursday, May 4, 2023, at the age of 89 years.

Our dear mother was born on October 2, 1933, in Cairo Egypt.  She married our father Gamil Cassis on January 23, 1954.  In June of 1974 they immigrated to Canada.  Mom loved French literature and taught French in different institutions, including the University of Lethbridge.  She enjoyed gardening, interior decoration, sewing and especially cooking big feasts for her children and grandchildren!  Mom will always be remembered as an elegant and distinguished woman, as well as an ever-loving mother and grandmother “Teta”. She had a heart of gold and loved unconditionally and gave generously.  She will be immensely missed by us all.   

Mom is survived by her daughter Dr. Mona Cassis (David Cavilla) of Lethbridge and her son Rashed Cassis (Diane Cassis) of Edmonton, as well as four beloved grandchildren: Christopher and Laura Cassis of Edmonton, and Joseph and Jasmine Cavilla of Lethbridge.

She was predeceased by her husband Gamil Cassis and son Rafik Cassis.

A Funeral Mass will be held at 1:00 pm, on Friday, May 12, 2023, at OUR LADY OF THE ASSUMPTION ROMAN CATHOLIC CHURCH, 2405, 12 Avenue South, Lethbridge, Alberta, with Father Kevin Tumback, celebrant.  To watch the service via livestream, please go to https://www.tikilive.com/channel/allsaintsparish 

Interment will follow at Mountain View Cemetery.
