Obituary

Sophia Yutsyk passed away peacefully on Friday, May 12, 2023, at the age of 97.

Sophia was born and raised in Mundare, AB but lived in Edmonton and Calgary before finally settling in Lethbridge. She grew up knowing all the chores associated with hard life on the farm. She lived her life with joy, determination and strong will but most of all with a strong love of her family.  She had many interests and activities that kept her active till the end of her long life; dance, travel, gardening, reading, floral arranging, cooking wonderful meals and was always up for a new adventure.

Sophia is survived by her sons Don Yutsyk (Florrie) of St. Albert and Dale Yutsyk (Darla) of Tucson; daughters Linda Schwarz (Ewald) of Lethbridge and Patti Cross (Stephen) of Sooke, BC; her grandsons Ryan Schwarz of Lethbridge and Joel Schwarz (Louise) of Victoria, BC and 2 great granddaughters. All of these she loved and touched deeply.

Sophia was predeceased by her husband Paul in 1977.

The family would like to acknowledge and thank the staff at Legacy Lodge where mom was loved and cared for the past 7 years, and the staff on Floor 4B at Chinook Regional Hospital for their compassion and care in mom’s final days.

Mom will be missed and will always be in our hearts.

A private celebration will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the War Amps of Canada, 2827 Riverside Drive, Ottawa Ontario K1V 0C4.
