Nevia Glavina, beloved wife of the late Luigi Glavina, passed away on May 21, 2020 at Newport Harbor Care Center in Calgary at the age of 78 years. She resided in Calgary for the past 3 years after previously living in Lethbridge.
Nevia was born on the 5th of November 1941 in Monte di Capodistria, Italy. Along with her parents, Joseph and Maria, and siblings, Stellio and Maria, she immigrated to Canada in 1957. Upon arrival in Canada, she and her family settled in Lethbridge. Nevia married Luigi on February 11, 1961 in Lethbridge and then moved to Edmonton where together they had two children, Franco and Laura. They lived in Edmonton for 7 years before returning to Lethbridge.
Nevia worked as a waitress at the Park Plaza hotel until she was stricken by a car accident in 1975 that reduced her mobility and affected her throughout life. She was no longer able to work outside the home, but she cherished being able to spend more time with her children. Her reduced mobility was a challenge throughout her life, but she persevered through the aches and pains. Nevia loved to cook and nourish her family with homemade meals especially using the vegetables from Luigi’s garden. Together, with Luigi’s tomatoes and Nevia’s skills in the kitchen, they made a delicious pasta sauce. Nevia’s baked buns were also renowned for their soft texture and how delicious they were when they were fresh out of the oven.
Nevia is survived by her brother Stellio Glavina of Prince George, B.C.; sister Maria Glavina of France; son Franco Glavina and daughter-in-law Ann of Calgary; daughter Laura and son-in-law Andy Chan of Franklin, Massachusetts, and her three granddaughters, Kiara, Elana, and Caylee, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and their families in Italy.
Nevia was predeceased by her parents and her husband Luigi.
