Johanna, “Jo" Helen (Andres) Dyck was born on November 1, 1927, in Lake Valley, Saskatchewan, to Jacob and Helen (Klassen) Andres. She gently passed away on August 5, 2022, surrounded by her family at the Sunny South Lodge in Coaldale, Alberta. Her family moved to Coaldale, Alberta, in 1931. Jo married F. David Dyck on August 23, 1952. After 60 years of marriage, David passed away on April 11, 2013.
Our Mom, Jo Dyck, was a petite strong woman who embraced life. She trained as a school teacher and first taught in a one-room school in Parkerview, SK. Then, she returned to Coaldale to teach grades five and six in Readymade School and John Davidson School. After full-time teaching, Mom substitute taught.
Mom was a teacher her whole life, teaching family and friends. The garden and kitchen were her artistic palette and her medium to educate. She was an organizer and got things done. She used her skills in the church and the community and fulfilled tasks with excellence. Mom's faith inspired her to volunteer in her church and community. MCC School Kits were one of her favourite charities. When we met at Thanksgiving as a family, school kit bags were ready to be filled. Over her lifetime, she sewed over 1000 bags for educating the less fortunate. She had a big heart for those in need.
Jo is lovingly remembered by her four children, Elizabeth (Henry) Warkentin, Bill Dyck, Mark (Marlene) Dyck and Mary Jane (Tim) Armitage; fourteen grandchildren: David (Valerie), Eric, Adam (Rachel); Ryan (Shaela), Megan (Tristan), Joel (Allison), Sarah (Carter), Paul; Braden (Jessica), Steven (Karly), Adrien (Annie), Grant (Destany); Emma and Thomas; seventeen great-grandchildren, Parks, Lexa, Nate, Gavin, Jackson, Lucia, Ruben, Griffin, Roscoe, Peter, Dorothy, Brooke, Hadleigh, Nash, Bentley, Blaire, and Harper; former daughter-in-law Janice Dyck, brother Jake (Verdell) Andres, sisters-in-law Anne Harder, Sylvia Andres, brother-in-law Werner (Tamara) Dyck, sister-in-law Catherine von Hohenbalken. Predeceased by her husband, F. David Dyck, her parents, Jacob & Helen Andres, brothers Eric Harder, infant Paul Andres, Melvin Andres and sister and brother-in-law, Anne and Kermit Daum.
She is also predeceased by David's sister, Elvira Gauger and his brother, John Dyck.
