Holly Wight Obituary

Ruth Holly Wight of Cardston, AB passed away peacefully on February 17, 2021 at the age of 70 years. Holly was born in Cardston on July 21, 1950 to Ruth Joy Clifton (Wight) and Lovell Wilson Wight and loved by stepfather James Albert Clifton.

Holly grew up and attended her early school years in Cardston. She then attended the

University of Lethbridge where she graduated with a B.A. in Library Science. She worked at AGT (later Telus) as a telephone operator for 25 years before her early retirement, and then as a Taxicab dispatcher at 5th Ave Cabs for 8 more years before permanently retiring. During this time, Holly continued to reside in Lethbridge until moving back to Cardston in February 2020 where she spent her last year at the Good Samaritans Lee Crest Nursing Home.

Holly was a quiet and reclusive woman that dearly loved the people close to her. Her two

biggest loves were books and cats! She always had at least one cat in her home that she loved and spoiled immensely. Her home was always filled with stacked bookcases and we often teased her that she should open a library and fill out library cards for us to check them out! She loved to draw in her younger years and was very talented, and was also exceptional at cross-stitch and knitting. Her nieces and nephew were always so excited to see her and what new surprises she may have made for them, whether it be newly knitted doll clothes, a new warm sweater or a new stack of audio book CD’s! She also enjoyed watching cooking shows and trying out all sorts of new recipes.

Holly is survived by sister Truda O’Connor, brother-in-law Bernard Hull, niece Katrina (McRay) Murdock, children Mackenzy, Brig, Jackson, Hunter, nephew Ben Hull, children Ceasar, Sophie, niece Jen O’Connor, children Mason, Jordan (John) children James, Brooks, niece-in-law Cori O’Connor, children Caley, Jesse, Spencer, stepsister Caryl (Del) Ockey as well as numerous cousins and family members. She was very close with great nieces Caley and Jesse O’Connor and great nephew Spencer O’Connor and always fondly referred to them as her adopted grandchildren.

Holly was predeceased by her parents Joy Clifton, Lovell Wight, stepfather Jim Clifton, sister Dawn Hull, nephew Dan O’Connor, and brother-in-law Jack O’Connor.

A small family graveside service will be held at a future date.

Flowers are gratefully declined. For those who wish, memorial donations may be made to any animal shelter or library in Holly’s name.
