Gerrit Donkersgoed

Gerrit Donkersgoed of Coaldale, beloved husband of the late Johanna Donkersgoed, passed away suddenly on July 7, 2021, at the age of 94 years.

Gerrit was born in Putten, Netherlands, and moved to Picture Butte in 1948, where his family had a dairy farm.  After he married Johanna, they bought a farm east of Coaldale, where he lived until his passing, with the help of his daughter and 2 loving and patient caregivers, Beverly Sanchez and Rowena Zafra.  Gerrit and Johanna had a dairy farm with irrigated cropland, and in later years, switched to Charolais cows and then feedlot cattle.  Gerrit loved cattle and farming.  In his spare time, he used to sing in the Christian Reformed Church choir. He was an avid curler in Coaldale with other retired farmers and town folk.  Gerrit enjoyed gardening and in his later years, driving around his land in his gator and around the country with Beverly looking at growing crops and harvest.  Gerrit is survived by his daughter Joyce and his son Ken, with wife Alana, and 2 grandchildren, Gerrit and Braden, his sisters Anna Puurveen and Henny Veluw, brothers Tymen and Ken Donkersgoed, and many nieces and nephews. He will be sadly missed.  

A public Memorial Service will be held at 11:00am, on Tuesday, July 13, 2021, at MARTIN BROTHERS RIVERVIEW CHAPEL, 610-4 Street South, Lethbridge, with Pastor Andrew Joosee officiating. A private family Interment will be held prior in the Archmount Cemetery.
