Gerhard "Gary" Schimanski Obituary

Mr. Gary Schimanski of Lethbridge, beloved husband of Mrs. Elli Schimanski, passed away peacefully and surrounded by his children May 14, 2022.

Born in Germany on September 5, 1939, the son of Hermann and Marianne (Zerner) Schimanski, Gary came to Canada with his family at the age of 14, in 1953 and settled in the Picture Butte area in 1959.   Gary farmed with his brothers until the spring of 1993.  After the sale of the farm, Gary and first wife Diane relocated to Lethbridge where Dad enrolled into the heavy-duty mechanics program at Lethbridge Community College.  After the completion of his course, he was employed by Horizon Implements in Taber until his retirement.

Gary had a quick sense of humour who had deep opinions on various subjects and interests.  Besides farming and tending to the animals, his family time was very important to him.  Movie and game nights were one of his favorite times which we had many laughs.  During the winter months, Gary enjoyed watching his sons play hockey, while the summer months brought fishing and camping.

After the passing of his first wife Diane, and while attending church, he met his second wife Elli Brenner and they married winter of 1999, and they remained at each other’s side until his passing.

Left to mourn are Gary’s children Mike (Judy) Schimanski, Garret (Petra) Schimanski and Lynn (Clint) Gulash; his wife Elli (Brenner) Schimanski and her children Arnold Brenner, Klaus (Jane) Brenner, Monica Gibb and Kurt Brenner.

A private family Graveside Service will be held at Mountain View Cemetery.
