Geertine Vandenberg

Geertine Vandenberg of Coaldale, beloved wife of John Vandenberg, passed away peacefully at Saint Michaels palliative care centre on September 11, 2023 at the age of 74 years.

Geertine was born and raised in Ulrum, the Netherlands, and attended elementary school there. She continued her education in Oldehove and Groningen, where she studied home economics and health care support.

Following this, she started work in the city of Groningen providing care in a senior home, and afterwards at “Het Dorp" in Arnhem.

In 1974, she immigrated to Canada where she met John Vandenberg. They settled in Coaldale and raised five children together, and were married for over 48 years. After raising her children, Geertine ran a successful home business, called Attractive Interiors, where she provided interior decorating and window covering services. She also enjoyed crocheting, gardening, and volunteering at the Mission thrift store, as well as spending time with family and friends.

Besides her loving husband John, Geertine is survived by her one daughter Pauline Smith; three sons Clarence, Dwight, and Marco Vandenberg; 13 grandchildren Spencer, Madelyn, and Hannah Smith. Caitlyn, Jovan, Caleb, and Owen Vandenberg. Natalie, Ashton, Shiloh, and Elias Vandenberg. Adrienne and Liv Vandenberg; Four sisters Ali, Grieta, Ria and Marianne; Three brothers Klaas, Douwe, and Roel; She is also survived by her son-in-law Shayne Smith; Four daughters in law, Julie Vandenberg, Michelle Vandenberg, Lydia Vandenberg, and Lyndsey Vandenberg. As well as numerous nieces nephews and their families.

Geertine was pre-deceased by her parents; Paulina and Douwe Kloosterman; her brother Martinus Kloosterman; and her son Henry Vandenberg

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, September 16, 2023 at the Coaldale Canadian reformed church with Reverend Huijgen officiating.
