Dale Hummel Obituary

In true Dale fashion, he slipped away from the party early, long before the rest of us were ready to see him go. Dale was a gentle, kind, compassionate, and incredibly generous man. He connected and helped people in the most unexpected and quiet ways, never expecting any praise or recognition. After he passed away, we learned so much more about how his kindness had touched people, especially his friends in Medicine Hat, many of whom considered him family.

Dale was born and raised on the farm in Milk River. His first love was sports (go Leafs and Bombers!). Dale could rhyme off any sports stats at the drop of a hat. His second love was farming and he could tell you all there was to know about the Hummel Farms land.  He worked the land until 2007 when he moved to Seven Persons, AB. There he met many friends through his work driving school bus, Red Cliff Taxi and his work as a security guard. Dale enjoyed the outdoors, especially teaching the next generation everything he knew about fishing, hunting, and camping.

In 2014 he moved to the Alberta Rose Lodge in Lethbridge where he resided until his death on April 15, 2021 at the age of 64 due to a heart condition.

Dale was a twin. He and his “womb mate” Doris Slag (Hummel) were born on March 24, 1957, the youngest of ten siblings. Dale leaves behind eight siblings Wally Hummel, Joanne Rolfe, Dianne Hummel Nelson, Betty Baldwin, Roy (Gail) Hummel, Ruth (Rick) Melvin, Amy (Chuck) Bradley and Doris (Jim) Slag; sister-in-law Karen Sexton and her children. He is also an Uncle and friend to many nieces, nephews, grand-nieces, grand-nephews and cousins.

Dale was predeceased by his parents Bob and Beth Hummel of Milk River, AB; brother Mark; 3 brothers in law Bill Nelson, Gordon Rolfe, and Dale Baldwin, 1 sister in law Gloria Hummel, and numerous other family members.

On hearing of his passing, his cousin Jean said, “Poor Dale, I wonder if he is feeling overwhelmed at meeting so many relatives right now, hopefully they’ll come a couple at a time.” What a reunion it will be!

The family is incredibly grateful for the care that he received from his personal caregiver, Rizza Lagon. Dale loved to share his memories of farm and family with her. We are also thankful for the staff at Alberta Rose Lodge and the AHS homecare workers.

A private family graveside service will be held on Wednesday, April 21, 2021 (Dale would be pleased that it is on the Queen’s 95th birthday). The family invites those who wish, to watch the recording of the service later in the week by visiting www.mbfunerals.com on Dale’s obituary.

For those who wish, memorial donations may be made to the Milk River Cemetery.
