Bertha Leigh Obituary

Mrs. Bertha May Leigh (Ullman) known as Leigh, of Lethbridge, beloved wife of the late Denys Frank Leigh, passed away peacefully on Friday, January 19, 2024, at the age of 91 years.

Leigh was born on March 31, 1932, in Windsor, Ontario. She married Denys in 1968 in Windsor. Denys was born in Manchester, England in 1926. They were transferred to Vancouver in 1969.  In 1971 they moved to Australia retuning to British Columbia in 1975. After a lengthy illness Denys passed away in 1996 in Penticton. Leigh was active there volunteering in activities such as Meal On Wheels.

Leigh moved to Edmonton in 2006 to be closer to family. In 2009, she moved to Lethbridge where Leigh’s best friend, the late Mina Gillott, was living.  While in Lethbridge she befriended many.  She was especially loved by Mina’s family, Mavis and Barry Stannard, their daughter Kate, as well as their son Anthony [Tony] Stannard and his wife Nanda and their children Joyce and Vidya.  She will be greatly missed by them all.

Leigh is survived by her niece Teresa (Bruce) Duvander of St Albert, Alberta.

Leigh was predeceased by her husband Denys, her parents James Robert Ross Ullman and Florence Ullman (Cring), and all of her siblings.

Family and friends thank the caring staff of St Michael’s Palliative Care Unit for their excellent support during Leigh’s last days.
