27/5/1924 - to - 1/8/2009
Margaret Ann Wolosiuk beloved wife of Agi Wolosiuk passed away at Edith Cavell on Saturday, August 1, 2009 at the age of 85.
She is survived by her husband of 60 years, Agi, her daughters Helen (Karl) Kloepper and Diane (Gordon) Pommen of Lethbridge and her son Ken (Barb) Wolosiuk of Carstairs. She is also survived by four grandchildren - Kim (Michael) Isaac of Brooks, Darcy (Julie Smith) Kloepper of Lethbridge, Jennifer and Courtney Pommen of Lethbridge and two great grandchildren, Madison and Morgan Isaac. Margaret will also be sadly missed by her sisters Josephine Sivak of Dubrava, Slovakia and Toni Gejdos of Lethbridge as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Margaret was predeceased by her father Adam Matejovie in 1962, her mother Mary Matejovie in 1993, her infant son, Frank, in 1952, and her brothers-in-law Juro Sivak of Slovakia and John Gejdos of Lethbridge.
Margaret was born on May 27, 1924 in Dubrava, Slovakia (formerly Czechoslovakia) to Adam and Mary Matejovie. She was raised almost entirely by her mother and extended family as her father had emigrated to Canada when she was only 2, to provide a better life for his family. Due to the Depression and World War II, the family was unable to join him until February of 1948. Margaret, along with her mother and her younger sister, Toni, arrived in Halifax and then went by train to Medicine Hat where their father was finally able to reunite with his family. From there, he took his family to the homestead in the Foremost area.
In the spring of 1948, Margaret moved to Coleman to work in a coffee shop owned by relatives. Here she honed her skills and became the best pie maker around. While living in Coleman, she met Agi and they were married on January 28, 1949. Their wedding was dubbed the 'social event' of the year as it lasted for three days and their bridal party consisted of 12 bridesmaids and groomsmen along with two flower girls and ring bearers. It was here that her daughter Helen was born along with her son, Frank. In 1952, Margaret and Agi moved to Lethbridge where their second daughter, Diane, was born. After Lethbridge, Calgary became their new home where Ken was born. When her father passed away in 1962, they moved back to the Foremost area to farm. They resided there until 1973 and then retired to Lethbridge. They remained in their home until 2007 and then moved to Martha's House, but when their health declined, made the move to Edith Cavell.
There are many things that we will always remember about Mom. She was an excellent cook, baker, gardener and homemaker. Her family was always provided with homemade soup, pies, slippers, and afghans. She loved to entertain family and friends and the door was always open for anyone to join in the festivities. Even though she did not like eating fish, she enjoyed their many fishing trips to Beaver Mines in their motor home. In their retirement, besides the fishing trips, they were also able to travel back to the ""old country"", to Hawaii, and throughout the western United States. Mom was very proud of her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was a very caring and compassionate lady, not only to her family, but to all who knew her. She will be greatly missed.
A Prayer Service (vigil rites) will be held at 7:00pm, on Tuesday, August 4, 2009, at the MARTIN BROS. RIVERVIEW CHAPEL, 610 - 4 St., S., Lethbridge, AB.
A Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00am, Wednesday, August 5, 2009, at the OUR LADY OF THE ASSUMPTION CATHOLIC CHURCH, 2405 - 12 Ave., S., Lethbridge, AB.
A private family interment will follow in the Mountain View Cemetery.
Memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Society Lethbridge Chapter, #402, 740 - 4 Ave., S., Lethbridge, AB, T1J 0N9, or to a charity of one's choice.
