Mrs. Zyla Catherine Wentz, beloved wife of the late Mr. Chris Wentz, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on Saturday, October 19, 2013 at the age of 96. Zyla was born in Burdett on June 2, 1917 to John and Katherine Kimmitt.
Zyla was a woman of deep faith and great love. Her positive attitude and love of life served as an inspiration to all who knew her. She will be lovingly remembered by her son Don (Erica) Wentz; three daughters Bev (Joe) Thacker, Cheryl (Gary) Hudak, and Polly Mauro; Ten grandchildren: Joe C. (Junko) Thacker, Jeremiah (Alanna) Hudak, April (Bryce) Salvador, Joelyne (Braden) Van Nistelrooy, Analea (Mike) Balint, Tonya (David) Baboneau, Jackie (Dustin) Farfus, Michael (Jamie) Mauro, Jordana Hudak, and Janelle Hudak; as well as 13 great grandchildren. Zyla is also survived by one sister June Judkins and a large extended family.
Zyla was predeceased by, granddaughter Melanie Thacker, son-in-law Mike Mauro, six brothers Harold, Ward, Clyde, Lyle, Tommy, and Arlo; and three sisters Inez, Thelma and Lula.
Zyla accomplished much in her life. She graduated with a teaching certificate from the University of Alberta Normal School in 1939. In 1973 she obtained her Bachelor of Education from the University of Lethbridge. Zyla taught every grade from one to twelve. She worked as a librarian and opened and acted as principal of St. Michael's school in Bow Island. Zyla first taught in country schools in the Foremost area, and there met the love of her life, Chris Wentz. They were married in 1942. They moved to Grassy Lake where they farmed and raised their four children. In 1967 the family moved to Lethbridge but continued to farm until the farm was sold in 1974. Zyla retired from teaching in June 1977. Zyla and Chris planned on enjoying their retirement traveling. Sadly, Chris fell ill and passed away August 1979.
In her retirement years, mom wrote an autobiography. She remained active in the Catholic Women's League receiving her 60 year pin in 2010. In addition she travelled the world. Mom shared in every family event celebrated by her children, her grandchildren and her great grandchildren.
Zyla lived a long, full and happy life. She was blessed with faith, peace, forgiveness and great love. Her last words were ""I love you"" as she was called home to her Heavenly Father.

A Prayer Vigil will be held at 7:00pm on Wednesday, October 23, 2013 at MARTIN BROTHERS RIVERVIEW CHAPEL, 610 4th Street South, Lethbridge.
A Funeral Mass will be held at 1:30pm on Thursday, October 24, 2013 at OUR LADY OF THE ASSUMPTION CATHOLIC CHURCH, 2405 12th Avenue South, Lethbridge. Interment to follow in Mountain View Cemetery.
