MR. ALFRED JOSEF WEISS of Picture Butte, beloved husband of Anna Weiss, passed away suddenly on May 9, 2011 at the age of 90 years.

Alfred was born in Gerlanden, Germany on August 13, 1920. He and his wife Anna immigrated to Canada in September, 1951. They worked on a farm near Picture Butte as the hired hand and cook. They were sugar beet workers and worked very hard. In 1958, they bought the same farm they had worked on and raised their three children; Karl, Ingrid and Rita. Alfred and Anna continued to reside on the farm until his passing.

Alfred enjoyed going to Picture Butte to meet his friends at coffee row. Rain or shine, Alfred was there at the Cactus to hear the news of the day. They would bush for coffee and Alfred had the lucky 13 - telling his family he rarely had to pay. He did his best to care for his family. He was generous to his friends and family. He will be missed.

Alfred is survived by his wife, Anna, his daughter Rita (Don) Gross of Lethbridge, and grandchildren Michael Weiss, Melaina Weiss and Matthew Weiss all of Silver Valley, AB and Kristina Gross of Lethbridge. He is also survived by a sister, Cecilie Schneider and a brother, Guenter Weiss of Germany, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Alfred was predeceased by his parents Josef and Ottilie, brothers Reinhold, Paul and Josef, sister Hedwig, daughter Ingrid, son Karl and granddaughter Kassia.

A Service of Remembrance will be held at 11:00 am on Monday, May 16, 2011 at CHRIST TRINITY LUTHERAN CHURCH, 416 - 12 Street South, Lethbridge, with Pastor Jason Anderson, officiating.

Interment to follow at Mountain View Cemetery, Lethbridge, Alberta.
