Official Obituary of

14/6/1916 - to - 9/3/2012

MARTHA WEDGWOOD, beloved wife of John Wedgwood, passed away peacefully on March 9, 2012 at the age of 95 years. Martha was born June 14, 1916 on the family homestead at Faith, Alberta. She obtained her Teaching Certification from Normal School in Calgary and at age 19 began her teaching career in a one room log school house at Elkwater Lake, Alberta, teaching grades one to ten. Martha's teaching career spanned 38 years with various teaching positions throughout southern Alberta. She had a keen interest in Social Studies and participated in the U of L associate teacher training program. She served on a number of committees relating to education, helped develop several teacher's guides and received recognition from the Alberta Teachers Association for her work in education. Marty was very proud of her pioneer heritage and always looked forward to the numerous family gatherings over the years.

Martha was predeceased by her first husband, John Conner and survived by her son Rodger (Lori) Conner, her granddaughter Kyla (Adam) Conner Driedzic, her grandson Gavin Conner and great grandson Kaden Driedzic. Martha met John Wedgwood in 1973 while travelling in Europe and they married in 1974 and honeymooned in Scandinavia. They continued to travel regularly to Europe for many years following their wedding. In addition to being survived by her husband, she is survived by John's son John (Alyson) Wedgwood, grandchildren Vanessa, Robin, Chris and Sean and great grandchildren Spencer and Sabrina. Martha was predeceased by her eight brothers and sisters and survived by many nieces and nephews.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 am, on Friday, March 16, 2012 at OUR LADY OF THE ASSUMPTION CATHOLIC CHURCH, 2405 - 12th Avenue South, Lethbridge, with Father John Kohler, celebrant.

Interment at Mountain View Cemetery.

Thank you to the doctors, nurses and caregivers of Unit 4C at the Lethbridge Regional Hospital, to all the caregivers at Park Meadows Village and to the friends and staff of Sunrise Village for the love and care they provided during Martha's stay with them. In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made to a charity of choice.
