Vern McGiuire

MR. VELMAN (VERN) MCGUIRE, of Lethbridge, beloved partner of Donna Harty passed away on Sunday, February 22, 2009 at the Foothills Hospital at the age of 70.

Besides his loving partner Donna, Vern is survived by his family in Lethbridge; Jennifer and Trevor Flexhaug and two grandsons; Carter and Spencer, who were the light of his life, as well as Jeremy Hiltz, with whom he spent many hours hanging out.

He is also survived by two sisters; Bernie (Mack) McCoullough of Winnipeg and Pat Lee of New Brunswick, and his brother Wilfred (Shirley) McGuire of New Brunswick, as well as nephews and nieces and their families. He is predeceased by his mother Anna, father Bernard and brother Roger, all of New Brunswick.

Vern was born January 1, 1939 and grew up in New Brunswick. He later moved to Manitoba, and at the age of 40 settled in Lethbridge, where he spent the remainder of his life. He worked as a truck driver, autobody mechanic, and private driver for many years.

Vern had many interests and hobbies which included camping, gardening, fishing and vehicle mechanics. He was well known for a great sense of humor, his love for animals, and a willingness to always lend a helping hand.

He will be sadly missed by family, friends and his coffee buddies, especially Little Charlie, whom he adored.

Family and friends are invited to pay their respects at a memorial gathering to celebrate his life at 54 Tartan Boulevard West, Lethbridge between 6:00 pm and 8:00 pm on Friday, March 13, 2009. At Vern's request, there will be no funeral service.
